SUMMARY
Description contributed by Graham Kinsey, CABI, based on Wehmeyer (1933).
Anamorph: Phomopsis controversa (Sacc.) Traverso (1906). Conidiophores 12 x 1 µm. Alpha-conidia 7-12 x 2-3.5 µm; possible beta-conidia 20-25 x 1 µm.
Teleomorph: stromata variable, on host surface as numerous minute angular pustules, host periderm often lost and exposing the heavily blackened bark surface or blackening absent, sometimes the entostromatic areas are bounded by a marginal line, ventral zone usually present. Ascomata 240-640 x 160-480 µm, irregularly scattered, in either wood or bark. Ascospores 10-14(-15) x 2.5-4 µm.
Wehmeyer (1933) and Gomes et al. (2013) considered this to belong to the D. eres aggregate, but there still may be merit in recording on a host-liked basis.
