Some years ago there was speculation that this plant may not be the true species. This was unfortunately due to a batch of seedlings being released by Royale Orchids (NSW Australia) as a selfing of this plant; in reality, the seed pod had been naturally pollinated by the only other plant open in the vicinity - Ivory-Colored Cymbidium (Cymbidium eburneum). Once the seedlings began to flower it caused much discussion until the reason was established and Kevin later registered the cross as Orchid (Cymbidium Memoria Evelyn Cuming).

'Paradise' was also selfed by Stephen Early and the seedlings all came true, confirming its status as a fine example of the species.

'Paradise' was used by Kevin Hipkins up until his untimely passing in all his hybrids involving the species.
