Day 2 of the blooming #plowmanii the spadix is active. Thermogenesis has begun! The spadix is definitely warm to the touch (slightly warmer than room temperature) Last night when the bloom opened it was putting out a sweet floral aroma. Today it’s very unpleasant, like a rotting fruit. It’s around this time in nature where beetles would be attracted to the scent and to the heat. Beetles visit the blooming flower on day 2 and crawl inside and spend the night feeding on the resin and feces from the bugs attracted during day 1 sweet scent phase. Hopefully, bringing pollen from a neighbor philodendron from the previous evening to the receptive female part of the spadix. As the bloom cools and the female receptors go dormant then the bloom tightens it’s exit quickly (about 60 minutes later) forcing the beetles to take pollen with them from the now active pollen flowers on the spadix. If all goes as planned tonight or tomorrow morning I will be able to harvest and freeze the pollen for up to 1 year. #HappyPlants #pollinators #Philodendron #PlantAddict #GregGang #learningsomethingneweveryday

Do you let your plowmanii’s climb or crawl? Everything I’m reading says they are crawling plants but the lady I bought it from had it on a moss pole

Day 3 #plowmanii #Philodendron #pollinators: We’ve got pollen! This morning around 8am the bloom reached the “closed” state and began to show signs that pollen would be released. Less than 20 minutes later the bloom was no longer warm to the touch. Safely cut away the outer layers to expose the spadix once again but it’s now a sappy, sticky mess covered with pollen. For the next few days it should produce some more but I got the most of it! Spadix is now covered so the fan doesn’t blow the rest of the newly formed pollen away. 😂😂😂 I was just browsing my country's equivalent of Craigslist and stumbled upon this. An "XXL LED Orchid , remote control included." My brain needed a moment to understand what I was seeing and what it is supposed to be. And I still have questions.
