TW:R2, Massilia Campaign–Lesbian Queens
Using an excellent mod that allows all factions that normally can’t to recruit women characters as generals in Total War: Rome 2′s Grand Campaign. Playing as Massilia, which is normally kind of an underdog faction, I had two lesbian warrior queens take over the government, then take over Rome. Details below the cut:
Our story begins with Queen Roxana, young wife of King Zenon of Massilia. A Greek trading city on the Mediterranean coast of Gaul, Massilia came to prominence under Zenon’s rule, conquering neighboring Celtic tribes along the coastline, extending their reach into Cisaplina. Showing initiative toward his cause, the young Roxana usurped one of the Massilian armies from Zenon’s political rival, leading it to multiple victories across the Alps.
Though married to the aging Zenon, Queen Roxana soon fell in love with an intelligent and ambitious noblewoman her age named Thaleia. Scheming together, our heroines convinced the king first to adopt Thaleia as his heir and later to place her in charge of his personal army. Working together, the Queen and princess conquered the rest of Cisalpine Gaul, further enriching the city of Massilia. Her power established, Thaleia had Zenon assassinated, usurping Massilia as co-queens with her beloved Roxana.
A mere turn later, the Roman Republic declared war on the queens for their conquest of Rome’s trading partners in Cisalpina. Undeterred by Roman threats, the queens led a two-pronged invasion down the Italian Peninsula, Roxana and her elite bodyguards leading the conquest of Rome itself.
During her conquests of Italy’s eastern coast, Thaleia and a noblewoman ally coerced Cicurina Varro, a Roman war-leader into defecting from her former allies. Cicurina brought with her her own unit of elite triarii spearmen. Recruiting an army of Greek, Celtic, and Italian auxiliaries, she sailed her army to Roman-held Corsica, taking the war to Rome’s island holdings.
Thaeleia died from natural causes at the age of 70, shortly after securing the former Greek cities of southern Italy. Distraught at the loss of her beloved, Roxana succumbed to melancholy a turn later.
But ‘tis not the end of our heroines’ legacy! Queen Thaleia bore four children during her reign, including two strong, courageous daughters, Perialla and Dione. Perialla inherited Thaleia’s title and army, usurping the legacy from her older brother and declaring her little sister as heir. Dione subsequently took over Roxana’s army, leading it into Sicily against the Romans. Both sisters’ armies currently muster in Sicily, poised to invade Roman Carthage and take their mothers’ war into Roman-controlled Africa!
