But I'm Not Palestinian, can I wear a kufiya?
BUT I'M NOT PALESTINIAN, CAN I WEAR A KUFIYA?
Cultural Respect | Solidarity | Understanding | Heritage
"But I'm not Palestinian," you might say, and that's precisely what brings us to the heart of this conversation. Recently, we've been fielding questions about the appropriateness of wearing the kufiya, particularly from those who are not of Palestinian descent, not Arab, white, non-Muslim, or believe wearing one might infringe upon another's culture. Your sensitivity to this is as refreshing as a desert oasis.
A quick side note - Did you know that historically about 10% of Palestinians are Christian? Indeed, religion is about as relevant to wearing a keffiyeh as is your ability to make a perfect batch of hummus (though that skill is always a bonus!)
Wearing the Keffiyeh respectfully is seen as a gesture of unity and support for the Palestinian cause and culture, not as cultural appropriation.
Now, onto the keffiyeh, our beloved Swiss Army knife of cultural symbols – narrating our story, shielding us from the sun, and occasionally moonlighting as a picnic blanket (only half-joking!).
This iconic scarf is deeply rooted in our history and identity. If you choose to wear this emblem, we see it not as an act of cultural appropriation, but as an open-hearted gesture of unity and support for our culture and cause.
You know, wearing a Keffiyeh is sort of like sporting a superhero's cape - there's a bit of responsibility that comes with it.
However, wearing a Keffiyeh is a bit like wearing a superhero's cape - it comes with some responsibility. It's not just about adding an element of style to your outfit (though it definitely does that); it's about understanding and respecting its rich history and significance.
This garment has journeyed from being a practical protection against the harsh Middle Eastern sun to a potent emblem of the Palestinian struggle for justice. Today, it's a global banner of resistance against oppression and a symbol of the enduring hope of the Palestinian people.
It is always heartening to see individuals taking an interest in our culture, standing by our cause. To wear a keffiyeh, is a visible expression of this solidarity. It is much more than a piece of cloth, it is a symbol of support that we deeply appreciate.
When you opt to wear a Keffiyeh, it's not just a personal fashion statement; it's an opportunity to spark meaningful conversations. It's an invite to discussions about its origins, significance, and its role in our ongoing struggle. Remember to share this story when someone asks about your distinctive garment.
Your interest in our culture and your support for our cause is as heartening as a well-cooked maqluba at a family gathering. Wearing the Keffiyeh with respect and mindfulness stirs conversations and raises awareness.

from 2091 reviewsI ordered this kufiya for my son. He is trying to be as active as he can in promoting the rights of Palestinians. Now he can wear this kufiya during marches while wearing the bright green vest as one of the safety team to make certain traffic doesn’t harm the marchers. I was so happy to give it to him. It is very nice quality. And the tactical kufiya stylishly demonstrates his support for universal human rights (along with the vest as a contrast color ). Always free free Palestine.
The kufiya arrived promptly, and they were beautiful! I got one for myself and one to give as a gift, and she was ecstatic upon receiving the kufiya. I'm hoping different styles become available for purchase soon.
Perfect and beautiful as always.
Colors are beautiful. Fabric is soft. Will purchase again when in stock.
I received my Kufiya and I am so pleased with it, good quality and shipped very quickly. It was worth the wait to finally get one, I hope you continue to sell out! Thank you
I’m just happy I was able to get one. Love the resistance. Free Palestine!
I ordered two kufiyas from the store, one black and white, and the other red and white. They took a while to get to me because I’m not in the US but use a US-based private courier to handle my correspondence. I digress.
The shopping process was painless. The delivery went as promised. The craftsmanship of the kufiyas is superb. I’m delighted to finally have them. The hand of the fabric is lovely. Heavier than I expected, owing to the quality of the weave. The patterns are beautiful up close. Have I mentioned how happy I am to finally have them?
I wholeheartedly recommend them. I’m already thinking of getting a few more as presents for my friends and family.
Beautiful kufiyas.. I have 4 of them.
Free Palestine ♥️
As an Irish person living in Quebec I wanted to show my solidarity with the people of Palestine by buying from an authentic Palestinian business. Unfortunately Israel’s genocide in Gaza has rendered this quite difficult to say the least. I was delighted when I saw hirbawi has international partners. It is a top quality, real woven cotton kufiya, not one of those cheap prints on polyester often advertised on Facebook. Thank you hirbawi, and long live Palestine and the Palestinian people.
Is mise, le meas,

I love this keffiyeh. I love wearing black and it's so comforting and beautiful to wear. I can feel the strength and kindness of the hands that wove it. FREE PALESTINE
I have ordered several kufiya as gifts for the young people I know who care about Palestine and also see the practical uses. My father gave me my first kufiya when I was five. He was Irish. In our souls, we know always a Free Palestine.
I love my Kufiyeh so much, it is wonderful to be able to show my solidarity to Palestine and all people facing oppression!
