Leaves
Leaves simple, opposite, decussate; stipules caducous; petiole 0.4-0.7 cm long, canaliculate, glabrous; lamina 5-10 x 1.3-4 cm, narrow elliptic or lanceolate, apex narrowly acute or acuminate, base acute; margin thick, slightly incurved, glabrous; secondary nerves obscure beneath, slightly visible above; tertiary nerves obscure.

Inflorescence axillary cymes; flowers dull purple.
Fruit and Seed
Capsule, obovate, 5 winged, 1-2 seeds per lobe.

Small trees or shrubs; branchlets acutely 4-angled, glabrous. Leaves opposite, oblong-lanceolate to elliptic, tapering at base, entire and thick at margin, acuminate at apex, 8-12 x 4-8 cm, coriaceous, glabrous, shining above, pale beneath; lateral nerves not conspicous. Cymes lax, usually drooping, more than 7-flowered; peduncles slender. Sepals 5, entire or fimbriate at margin. Petals 5, free, orbicular, purplish. Stamens 5, alternating with petals, inserted at margin of disc. Disc 5-lobed, fleshy. Ovary within disc; styles short, thick. Fruits 5-loculed capsules, turbinate, attenuate below, obtusely winged above.
