Euterpe edulis, ‘Orange Crownshaft’ Acai Palm Tree
Euterpe edulis is native to the Amazon rainforest region of South America and is primarily found in Brazil.
The Acai Palm is a slender palm tree, with solitary stems that can grow in habitat up to 50-100 feet tall and 6 inches in diameter. It has a single straight trunk with a smooth, very colorful orange crowshaft.
The Acai Palm can be cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions and thrives in full to partial sun. It produces dark purple to black, round fruits called acai berries. These berries are about 1-2 cm in diameter and are known for their high nutritional value and antioxidant properties. Euterpe edulis has been the main source for heart of palm and boasts a delicate, yet distinctly rich and nutty taste.
A great alternative for those who cannot grow the more tropical E. oleracea as this one has been known to grow in much cooler climates producing the same amazingly healthy fruit. Stunning in any landscape, especially when planted in multiples. A must for palm collectors and enthusiasts!
