Abstract
Delphinium (Larkspur) is a field- or greenhouse-grown cut flower of significant economic importance. Diseases are a major limiting factor in the profitable cultivation of delphinium. Notable among these diseases are root, crown, and stem rots; powdery mildew; black leaf spot; aster yellows; and several viral diseases. Yield loss can be reduced and profitability increased by concerted efforts to manage delphinium diseases. Management tactics include host resistance and cultural, chemical, biological, and physical control. Integration of as many of these tactics as practically possible will maximize the effectiveness of disease management. This chapter presents information on the occurrence, symptoms, biology and epidemiology, and management of individual diseases of delphinium. Details are provided for diseases on which research has been done and published. Some diseases have only been observed and research has not been done or published. Such diseases are only briefly mentioned.
