Summary
The eight species of small ephemeral Eriocaulon known from West Africa with long involucral bracts are described and discussed. Three new species are included: E. cryptocephalum from Guinea (Conakry) and Sierra Leone, E. tingilomum from Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast and E. porembskii from Ivory Coast to Nigeria. A determination key to the eight included species is provided.

We would like to thank Dr Martin Cheek’s team at Kew, especially Xander van der Burgt, for looking out for these inconspicuous plants during field work in Guinea and Sierra Leone, supplying photographs, and for assisting in the provision of duplicates to Kew. The second author thanks Prof. Bassirou Bonfoh, Prof. Inza Koné and Saturnin Dougoune (Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d’Ivoire) for help with obtaining a collecting permit and for organising the trip in Ivory Coast. Chyrille Chatelain (G) provided us with records of Eriocaulon collections from Ivory Coast.
