Abstract
Patagonia Argentina is an extensive region located to the south of the American continent. The section in the cordillera de los Andes is more humid and has forests and a great variety of lakes of glacial origin. The Patagonian desert or Patagonian steppe has semiarid characteristics and predominance of shrubs. Mining, hydroelectric power generation, gas and oil exploitation, livestock, forest exploitation, and agriculture are the economic activities of the region. The medicinal species, Adesmia boronioides Hook f., Berberis microphylla G. Forest., Buddleja globosa Hope, and Verbena litoralis Kunth var. litoralis that grow in Patagonia are described with respect to their botanical characteristics, ethnomedical uses, chemicals, biological activity, toxicity, and establishment of in vitro cultures and legal status, when corresponding.
