Abstract
Anemia, asthma, chickenpox, diphtheria, leukemia, measles, mumps, pneumonia, polio, tuberculosis, whooping cough, Lyme disease, fever, downs syndrome, dental caries, cystic fibrosis, chagas disease, candidiasis, cancer, bronchiolitis, and few others are some of the pediatric diseases (Yellon and Goldberg 2001). In the children, the childhood illnesses include coughs, colds, and ear infections, and it is normal for a child to have eight or more colds per year (www.healthdirect.gov.au). Some of the common illnesses in children under 5 years of age are listed as: diarrhea and vomiting, fever and high temperatures, food allergies, measles, mumps, and Rubella (German measles) (MacRae et al. 2006). The most common causes of deaths in USA in 2011 have been recorded as: birth defects, preterm birth, and low birth weight. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is one of these (www.nichd.nih.gov). Similarly, children also are affected by feeding disorders, both in normal developed ones and those with problems attributable to medical or developmental factors. In the pediatric population prevalence, feeding problems range from 25 to 35% in normally developing children but is 33–80% in children with developmental delay (Burklow et al. 1998; Bevan et al. 2011). Children also face physical defects, developmental delay, neurological problems, and behavioral difficulties (Burklow et al. 1998).
