Abstract

Rice is probably the oldest food crop cultivated by farmers for thousands of years. To obtain better yield, traditionally people use breeding techniques which generate improved varieties of rice. Due to continuous focus on selection for a few major traits such as yield, many other traits may have been lost. On the other hand, wild species are a good source of important alleles. Oryza longiglumis is one such species from the genus Oryza that has several important traits. In this chapter, we have discussed in detail the research carried out so far on this species.
