Zusammenfassung
Die gesamten Tropen sind generell Strahlungsüberschuss-Gebiete der Erde wegen der gleich günstigen Einstrahlungsverhältnisse im Gebiet zwischen den Wendekreisen. Sie geben durch die atmosphärische Zirkulation Energie in die hohen Breiten ab. Gleichwohl gibt es strahlungsklimatische Unterschiede zwischen den feuchten und trockenen Tropen. Letztere weisen, vor allem die ausgedehnten Wüstenregionen (z.B. die Sahara) am Übergang zu den Subtropen, wegen der nächtlichen Ausstrahlungsmaxima eine negative Strahlungsbilanz auf. Die gleichmäßige Einstrahlung bedingt trotz dieser Unterschiede, dass die Tropen in erster Linie die Wärmegürtel der Erde sind.
