Sucker Punch's Emily Browning Cast in American Gods

American Gods will debut in 2017.

Emily Browning will play Laura Moon in the upcoming television adaptation of Neil Gaiman's fantasy novel American Gods, Starz and FremantleMedia North America announced today.

Browning -- who is known for her role as Babydoll in Sucker Punch -- has a big challenge ahead of her, Gaiman said. Laura Moon, wife of Shadow Moon, will be "even trickier and more dangerous than the one on the page." Laura is a complex character who will "go on an unexpected journey" after her husband's impending prison release, and throughout American Gods.

Speaking about Browning, creators Bryan Fuller and Michael Green said the actress "brings a fascinating spark of life to every role she inhabits and we are tickled she will be lighting up Laura Moon and bringing her to life in more ways than one on American Gods." Browning will join Deadwood star IanMcShane and The 100 actor Ricky Whittle, who are playing Mr. Wednesday and Shadow Moon, respectively. Together, Mr. Wednesday and Shadow Moon set out "on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities," who are intent on wiping out the older, more traditional gods.

The show is expected to debut in 2017 on Starz.
