Comparing smokers' lungs to non-smokers' lungs!!

This is what bad habits such as smoking does to the respiratory system! Lungs can be very badly affected by smoking, this image demonstrates the effects pretty well! Coughs, colds, wheezing, chronic bronchitis and asthma are just a tiny portion of a long list of conditions. Fatal diseases such as pneumonia, emphysema and lung cancer are frequently the leading cause of mortality. Cigarettes smoke chemicals are interfering with the body's ability to filter air and cleaning out the lungs. It also irritates and paralyzes the cilia-tiny hair-like structures that line the airways and clean out dust and dirt along with over-production of mucous. This extra mucus means smokers are more likely to suffer from chronic bronchitis and what is known as 'smoker's cough'.Emphysema is another condition in which long-term smoking gradually damages and causes over-inflation of the alveoli, leading to shortness of breath due to reduced amount of lung tissue available for the transfer of oxygen from the air to the blood. The bright side is, that many diseases caused by smoking are actually reversible!
