Brisbane Golden Wattle - Acacia fimbriata - Care Guide
Acacia fimbriata! Better known as the Brisbane Golden Wattle, it grows in a wide range of habitats across the east coast of Australia ranging from NSW and Queensland. You'll often find this shrub along rocky streams as a part of Eucalyptus woodland communities growing in rocky and sandy soils or along the fringes of rainforest in more northern areas. It produces gorgeous bright yellow flowers that turn into edible seed pods.
The seed pods of the Brisbane Golden Wattle are edible and can be harvested! Best enjoyed roasted, the seed taste like a combination of hazelnut, chocolate and coffee and can be used in a variety of recipes!
You can expect this spectacular native to blossom with its bright yellow flowers between July and November with the seeds pods following shortly thereafter.
Once the seed pods are a dark black colour, that's when they're ready for harvest. Waiting until this stage will guarantee the most flavour!

Planting
For best results, plant your Brisbane Golden Wattle in well-drained sandy soils and place your plant in full sun. You can also grow in part shade for reasonable results. This dense, flowering shrub can attain a height of up to 7m. It's great when used as a hedging or screening in your garden.

Watering & Drought Tolerance
As mentioned, Brisbane Golden Wattle is exceptionally hardy. Once established Acacias will tolerate dryness however for best results watering is required during dry periods while plants are young and actively growing. During wintertime, you can hold back on watering but as the temperature increases ensure that you're keeping it well watered. When too dry, it will wilt which is a good indication of when to water.
Fertilising your Brisbane Golden Wattle
Being a plant that's very low maintenance, Brisbane Golden Wattle will not require much in the way of fertilising. We recommend initially feeding with a slow release low phosphorus fertiliser to help first establish the plant.
