RSD Essential 060 - Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood is the last album released by American horror punk band Misfits to feature founding member and lead vocalist, Glenn Danzig. Danzig released it on his Plan 9 label in December 1983, two months after he played his last concert with the band. It was noticeably harder and faster than their previous releases, showing more of a hardcore punk sound. Since its release it has often been referred to as simply "Earth A.D." amongst fans. Originally released as a 9 song LP, it was later issued with the three tracks of the Die, Die My Darling EP incorporated into the track listing: "Die, Die My Darling", "Mommy, Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight?" and "We Bite". Glenn Danzig has said that the tracks "Bloodfeast" and "Death Comes Ripping" were originally intended for Samhain's first release but were added to what would be the Misfits' final record in a last-ditch effort to save the band.

Indie Exclusive - Coalmine Records digs into their storied discography to unveil their ten-year anniversary reissue of Highway Robbery, the collaborative concept album from Detroit’s heavyweight emcee Guilty Simpson and Philly beat smith Small Professor. For seasoned Australian alternative stalwarts Atlas Genius, their third album – and first in nine
years – End of the Tunnel on the Orchard comes after a trying time that included leaving Warner
Records and then their adopted base of Los Angeles for home just before the pandemic shut
down the world. Whether that’s a light or an oncoming train in their path, the band’s lead
vocalist/guitarist/writer and founding member Keith Jeffery is looking ahead, not over his
shoulder, on 11 songs which reflect that turmoil and growth, both personal and universal, over
the past several years.
“We’re happy enough just to get this album out, above everything else,” admits Keith, with the
band in “musical purgatory” due to another aborted label deal. “We have no expectations this
time.”
The previously released “Elegant Strangers” is a melodic ode to the drug-fueled L.A. faux
schmooze culture, “dressed for the morning sun/Mirrors and razors,” already charting at
SiriusXM’s Alt Nation. The opening disco-inflected track, “Falling So Hard,” offers a longing
song for a lover “oceans apart.” It’s a theme explored as well on “Nobody Loves Like You,” with
Keith’s falsetto and funky guitar solo underlining a tale of missing someone “half the world
away,” a dance-rock track that combines the club floor and the furthest reaches of the arena. The
epic orchestral intro to the geo-political tract “Don’t Let Love be a Stranger,” “Can’t Be Alone
Tonight” and “On a Wave,” inspired by Keith’s passion for surfing, sport an anthemic melodic
drive with whisper-to-a-scream dynamics.
“It’s not really about the water, though I used to love to surf,” says Keith about “On a Wave,”
“It’s like riding that emotional roller coaster, trying to maintain your balance despite all of life’s
ups and downs.”
“Romans” examines a dysfunctional relationship Jeffery experienced while in L.A. “We were
seemingly under control, like Romans, but we were really just bullshitting and using one
another,” explains Keith, a Pisces and admitted “hopeless” romantic. “Animals” and “Do Me
This Way” offer thumping, funky odes to unbridled, passionate lust.
“’Animals’ is just about the chemistry between people,” observed Keith. “The coy games that
couples play, the dance of courtship which results in marriage and kids or is simply a one-night
stand. ‘Do Me This Way’ is about indulging in all the wrong shit in L.A., when you should be
focusing on what you need to be doing.”
“All for nothing, all for show/If all else fails, at least we rode,” “On a Wave”
Atlas Genius started out in Victor Harbor, a tiny town an hour south of Adelaide on the coast of
southern Australia in 2011 with Keith and his brothers Michael on drums and Steve on bass and
keys along with keyboardist Darren Sell, working out of a home studio they built with funds
from playing at local bars. Signed worldwide to Warner Records, Atlas Genius released a three-

song EP and two full-length albums. The debut, When It Was Now, dropped in 2013, producing
the SiriusXM Alt Nation hit, “Trojans,” the album peaking at #3 on the Billboard Alternative
chart (where it remained for over 52 straight weeks), and #34 on the Billboard 200, with a
second single, “If So,” hitting #8 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. Inanimate Objects
came out two years later, with the first single, “Molecules,” going Top 10 on Billboard’s
Alternative Airplay chart, where it spent 22 weeks before the band was unceremoniously
dropped.
“We have to remind people that we’re still here,” acknowledges Keith. “I feel very positive about
things now. You have to go through a really shit period to appreciate what you’ve got. We’re
ready to put the past behind us, to emerge from the ‘End of the Tunnel’ into the sunlight. We’re
excited to start playing these new songs for people. It’s about time.
“This is by far our strongest album from front to back, mainly because we had the time to get it
right. These 11 songs are the best from the more than hundred I’ve written over that time. I’m
just very happy with how it turned out.”

On sophomore album Love Out of Lemons, revered Nashville troubadour Bones Owens continues to evolve his cultured rock songwriting while capturing the energy of his renowned live shows. Released on July 12 by Black Ranch Records, Love Out of Lemons collects deeply grooving snapshots of carefree times and top-down drives with subtleties that linger long after the party’s over.
“This record sort of picks up where my debut full-length left off,” offered Owens from yet another hotel room on yet another tour. “Energetic rock very typical of my live show.” Raised on country, gospel, and bluesy classic rock in rural Missouri, Owens took up guitar at age 10 and within three years was writing his own songs. At 21, he landed a publishing deal and relocated to Nashville, where he was soon a sought-after session and touring guitarist for a diverse array of artists from Yelawolf and Mikky Ekko to Carrie Underwood and Bon Jovi. Owens also co-wrote most of Yelawolf’s Trial by Fire album. An old soul with a poet’s way with words, Owen’s early self-released solo EPs attracted the attention of Thirty Tigers (The White Buffalo, Smashing Pumpkins etc.), who released his eponymous debut album in 2021 and the more introspective, Americana-tinted Eighteen heeler EP two years later. Like Eighteen Wheeler, Love Out of Lemons was produced by Paul Moak at his Smoakstack studio in Nashville. But while the EP was something of an introspective departure for Owens, Love Out of Lemons is a blithe dive into his eclectic, nuanced rock and alt-roots sensibilities, from the genre-fluid grooves of heyday War to the lean bluesy influence of Creedence Clearwater Revival. “I wanted to do another record that was largely rock, but also for it to have more than one gear,” said Owens. Love Out of Lemons features co-writes with Henry Brill (Phantogram, Jack Garratt) on “Born
Again” and Austin Jenkins (Leon Bridges, White Denim) on “Higher Than I Wanna Be.” Drums throughout were played by Julian Dorio (The Whigs, Eagles of Death Metal), with all other instruments handled by Owens and producer Moak. The album’s intentions are clear from the first bars of the opening title track; an irresistibly head-bobbing, outdoorsy strut that explores relationships from which love will never bloom, no matter how hard one or both parties try. “I was thinking of Eric Burdon or War as kind of the starting point for that song,” Owens recalled. “Summer Skin” epitomizes Love Out of Lemons’ mellower sonic subplots, tapping into a
carefree era of Owen’s life largely spent riding motorcycles and hanging out with friends, drink in hand. With additional arrangement and instruments by L.A.-based singer- songwriter/producer Josh Ostrander (Mondo Cozmo, Eastern Conference Champions), its organic, breezy verses are punctuated with an epic cascade of a chorus rich in twinkling, sepia toned nostalgia. The tambourine-flecked AC/DC strut of “Get In On” is a neon washed, two-and-a-half-minute
dive bar anthem, its universally relatable refrain elevated with ecstatic organ and Owens’ soaring vocal. “I’ve waited all day long / To get it / To get it / To get it on,” implores its insistent, made-for-the-stage chorus. As well as his ongoing touring, Owens will be making a solo trek around the Midwest on his Harley Davidson to coincide with the release of Love Out of Lemons. “I’ll just have a guitar strapped on the back to do some intimate shows and radio spots,” he explained. “As well as checking in on friends and family along the way.” Originally planned for the previous November, the trip was postponed after Owens struck a deer on his motorcycle the day before he was due to leave. Tying-in with Love Out of Lemons standout “Goin’ Back Where I Came From,” the route will include Owens’ native Missouri, as
well as Harley Davidson’s Milwaukee headquarters. “I think it’s perfect that the record is coming out in the summer,” he concluded before heading out to the night’s soundcheck. “Because it very much feels like a sunny day, drivin’-down-the-road soundtrack to me.
