Leaf septoria or Calcium deficiency?

Hey beautiful people

I’m dealing with a issue I’ve never encountered before in my garden and would appreciate a second opinion

My plants are grown outdoors in organic amended soil and I’ve got these little yellow blotches appearing on lower (and occasionally higher )up on plants that slowly form dried out dead areas on leaflets

The two possibilities I’ve kind of narrowed it down to are as my title reads
Any thoughts??

I’ve stripped the lowers a couple weeks back to create air flow but the spots still are showing up here and there
The plants seem otherwise pretty healthy

Neem oil or feed??
Any help would be much appreciated

From your description and pictures it looks a lot like septoria. If you determine that is the cause I would suggest removing all the infected leaves and thinning out the rest of the plants to increase airflow. Once defoliated (nothing extreme) use a copper based fungicide and spray your plants entirely getting tops and bottom of leaves, stems and stalk of plants. Clean up any weeds under the plants and spray underneath the plants as well. You can also use oils such as neem if you already have it but make sure not spray them when in direct sunlight. Would be best if using oils to spray just before dark……….

I’ll pull off the remaining infected leaves-thin a little then litfa for a while…
If the problem persists I’ll look into spraying

Looks like leaf septoria to me. I had it outdoor last year and ignored it until it really became a problem. The plants that had it the worst really suffered in flower size. I would sulfur them down and see if that slows the spread. From my experience septoria isn’t one you want to “leave it the fuck alone”…

Definitely septoria- I’m battling it outside in Hawaii. It sucks.

It has me defoliating a lot more & faster than I want to.

Only slight hope in shutting down after current run.

Seems like tomorrow I’ll definitely be thinning and spraying in the evening.

@VAhomegrown no black walnut but there is a huge pecan nut tree next door.
They are related I think-do you think these are vectors for the problem?
I’ve been growing here for years and never had this issue
But it has been very wet and humid so this is possibly a contributing factor…

Like the rest have said man, remove the infected leafs. You should be able to give it a milk foliage spray to help minimize the spread too.

A lot of my Japanese maples get the Sep. I’m not a tree expert but maybe it’s coming from something other than walnut/pecan.

Leaf septoria, ive had success after a major strip down of infected leaves using peroxide to spray the remaining leaves at sundown.

My outdoor plants catch it from our 30 yr old black currant bush.

Whatever you do LITFA…

Take action right away-This thing is a absolute bitch(when conditions are right as in my case,high humidity rain)and it will spread like a wildfire.

Never in all my years have I delt with anything like this…maybe mites but they are both a curse to any grower…

I’ve ended up defoliating pretty heavily and sprayed first with Neem,then h2O2 but these had little effect-I then ramped up with a copper spray and it seems to be kind of under control for now(I hope🤞🏻)
But please if this pest shows it’s ugly head in your garden be proactive and stay on top of the problem…after all healthy plants is what we all strive for.

I managed to harvest but it wasn’t pretty.

Clones nearby got infected by my flowering plants… removed infected/damaged leaves & sprayed Safer 567 & it went away… until I flipped & now won’t use that spray 🤦 & saw a couple small spots.

My theory is the 567 “blocks” it from expressing & completing its life cycle(spores) but doesn’t cure it. Weird.

Since my last update we’ve had basically non stop rain alternating with extremely high humidity…
The plants I thought were under control have just flared up again

All these measures don’t kill it off 100% and when conditions are perfect it just bounces right back.

It’s not so apparent on tops of leaves but underneath tells a different story😬

Autumn has today officially made itself apparent with much cooler air coming from inland which means the rain and humidity will soon come to a end and this normally helps to break the cycles of most of the problems I encounter in my garden,plus my plants are now in about their 2nd/3rd week of flower so I won’t be spraying anything more…I mean I threw everything (organic based) in the book at it and it’s done nothing so just gonna let it ride…
My yields probably will be down but can’t really prune much more and certainly not gonna spray so will just have to except what comes of it.
I’m going to be vigilant on any early warning signs on my next plants that go in after these and hopefully things will be better next round.

Well, my garden looked far worse by mid-flowering. Eventually the damage spreads to the buds but if you wait until the last minute & harvest early it went OK for me. Caterpillars & bud rot & some silvery grey mold arrived as reinforcements 🤦🤬 so day 56 harvest & 30% loss(in the freezer about to wash).

As soon as I slacked on spraying the soap the septoria sneaks back…but it’s raining 3’ a week

Problem solved…

Decided to take the bunch out…was a hard decision but I’m over fighting this evil opponent…learnt a very valuable lesson for next time…aka school fees
