Jack Black Confirms He'll Star in Minecraft Movie: 'An Actor Prepares'

Jack Black isn't done making video-game movies yet!

The actor confirmed the rumors that he'd be starring in an upcoming film adaptation of Minecraft on Tuesday, posting a photo of himself reading Minecraft Basics for Dummies.

"An actor prepares," Black, 54, wrote in the caption.

Among those in the comments was Black's longtime Tenacious D bandmate and friend Kyle Gass, who wrote, "May need to pick up a copy 📖 🎭."

"Awesomeness," said Kel Mitchell, while Emile Hirsch chimed in, "Dude please be careful. That game is seriously addictive. Don't lose yourself in it. 🙏."

According to Deadline, plot details of the Jared Hess-directed Minecraft film are being kept under wraps for now, but it is set to costar Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Eugene Hansen, with a release year of 2025 listed on IMDb.

Per Deadline, Black will play the character of Steve, while the outlet previously reported that Brooks, 34, will play Dawn, and Hansen will step into the role of Henry.

Meanwhile, Black is fresh off the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, in which he voiced the villain Bowser — and made even more waves with the character's hilarious earworm "Peaches."

Just one week after its April 2023 release, the animated film became the biggest video-game movie of all time, eventually racking up a total of $1.36 billion at the worldwide box office.

Black is also set to reprise the titular Po in his popular Kung-Fu Panda franchise, with a fourth film slated to hit theaters March 8.

Speaking with PEOPLE about The Super Mario Bros. Movie back in April 2023, Black said signing on to play Bowser was "an instant no-brainer," considering he has "always been a fan of the original Nintendo Universe."

"Donkey Kong was such a huge part of my childhood. But my boys first introduced me to Bowser because I didn't even play that until they were playing their Nintendo Switches," said the father of two. "That's when I really got into Super Mario Bros. with them."

"Bowser was obviously the coolest character in the universe. And when I got the offer, it was an instant no-brainer. Like, 'Yes.' Stoked to play that character," added Black.

And there's one game series in the Mario franchise that the actor and musician is "pretty darn good at, if I don't say so myself": Mario Kart.

"There is a level above me. I'm not the top crème de la crème," Black admitted. "But for the average player, I will clean up. I will win."
