Information
Perennial with short scaly rhizomes; culms 30–200 cm. high. Leaf-blades 15–30 cm. long, the basal leaves linear, the cauline often ± cordate at the base. Inflorescence a scanty spathate false panicle; racemes 4–9 cm. long, with 1 homogamous pair at the base of the lower raceme only. Sessile spikelet terete, with a callus 1–2 mm. long; lower glume 5–7 mm. long, the keels rounded and 4–7-nerved, sulcate between them; awn of upper lemma 2.5–7 cm. long, puberulous to pubescent. Caryopsis hollowed on one face. Pedicelled spikelet 9–13 mm. long, not winged, with or without an awn up to 8 mm. long.
