A tufted perennial grass with culms to 2 m tall; of the soudanian savanna from Guinea to N Nigeria.The grass furnishes some grazing, but the foliage is aromatic, which is in general rendered unpalatable (2, 3).The root is also aromatic, and in Dahomey it is pulverised and served in decoction with a pimento as a fortifying drink (1).
