Global description
Fuirena stricta is an annual or vivacious tuft plant. The upright stems are medium in size, about 60 cm high. They bear short leaves, staggered all along the stem. The inflorescence is terminal. It consists of a small cluster of ellipsoid spikelets with 5 angles.
General habit
Vivacious or annual plant slender, forming a tuft 60 cm high.
Underground system
Fasciculate root system emitted from short and fine rhizomes.
Stem
The stems are thin and erect, of triangular section. They measure 60 cm in height.
Leaf
The leaves are simple, alternate. They are arranged all along the stem in a tristichous arrangement. The blade is short, 5 cm long maximum, rigid, single-veined.
Inflorescence
The inflorescence is terminal to subterminal. It consists of a small group of 2 to 5 spikelets.
Spikelet
The spikelet is closely ellipsoid, angular with 5 angles. It is 10 mm long and 2 to 3 mm wide. It is yellowish in color.

Fuirena stricta is present throughout tropical Africa, as far as Madagascar.
