Patrick Dempsey was born on January 13, 1966 in Lewiston, Maine. Patrick got his early start in the business as a member of different touring troupes, moving around the country and performing different plays. Patrick's first feature film role came at the age of 21, when he was cast in 1987's Can't Buy Me Love. Many of Patrick's early roles during the '80s fell into the romantic comedy genre, including Loverboy and Happy Together.
In the '90s, Patrick had recurring roles on the television series Will and Grace as well as on Once and Again, a role which, in 2001, earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.
After roles in the film Sweet Home Alabama and Scream 3, Patrick found himself back on television as Dr. Derek "Mc.Dreamy" Sheppard in the medical series Grey's Anatomy.
