Schismatoglottis Wallichii Care & Maturity

July 06, 2022

Schismatoglottis wallichii is a unique decorative shrub, native to Southeast Asia, belonginging to the Araceae family. Schismatoglottis is grown for its amazing variegated foliage with deep green on the edge and center. Leaves are narrow and pointy with impressive veining.

Watering: Water thoroughly when top 2" of soil are dry. Do not allow plant to stand in draining as this will lead to root rot.
Light Requirements: Bright, indirect light to partial shade.
Humidity Needs: Low to moderate, over 40% is ideal.
Soil Preference:
Standard, well-draining potting soil.
Fertilizing:
Benefits from a well-balanced fertilizer 1x/month during spring/summer months.
Repotting:
Repot your Schismatoglottis when the plant outgrows its pot. It grows relatively quickly and prefers space to grow outward. Will benefit from a yearly repot to freshen soil and encourage healthy new growth.
Pet Safe: Yes
Common Issues:
Droopy leaves indicate underwatering, soaking your plant from the bottom will help it perk back up (just be sure not to leave in water at length). Yellowing leaves indicate a plant that is being overwatered, allow to dry out more between watering and your plant should bounce back to health.

Can also be susceptible to mealy bugs and scales. When spotted, remove pests from the plant and treat immediately with neem oil.
