On Jan. 15, 1980, Texas Bank & Trust Company joined
Allied Bancshares, Inc. It had a modest beginning in 1921 as
Guaranty State Bank, and at year-end 1984 had grown to
assets in excess of $82 million and deposits in the excess of
$76 million.
The organizers of the bank, W. J. Weatherby, N. H.
Scogin, B. F. Davis, T. E. Acker, and Dr. J. M. Travis, saw the
institution open for business at the corner of Main and Rusk
Streets. In 1931, the location changed to the corner of Com-
merce and South Ragsdale (now Jacksonville City Hall). In
1966, the bank moved to its present location at the corner of
South Ragsdale and Rusk Streets.
Brothers pioneered the growth of the bank, and at the
same time have been instrumental in civic growth in and
around Jacksonville. T. E. "Mr. Tom" Acker, now deceased,
and Colonel D. Acker each served the bank as President
and/or Chairman of the Board. At the time of his death, "Mr.
Tom" had completed more than 51 years of service. Colonel
Acker retired from the bank in 1985 after 55 years of active
service.
Others who have served as President of the Bank are W. J.Weatherby, J. R. Dunn, E. R. Gregg Jr. (now Chairman), and
Joe H. Sharp Jr. The present President and Chief Executive
Officer is Gary Godfrey.
1985 active officers are E. R. Gregg Jr.; Gary C. Godfrey;
Mary Harris, Executive Vice-President and Cashier; Larry
Bolton, Senior Vice-President; Clyde Small, Senior Vice-
President; Nellie B. Boone, Vice-President; Jack Woodson,
Vice-President; John Clark, Assistant Vice-President; He-
len Wade, Assistant Vice-President; Marilyn Evans, Assis-
tant Cashier; Deloris Huntsberger, Assistant Cashier; Bev-
erly Jimerson, Assistant Cashier; Louise Pearman,
Assistant Cashier; Louise Phillips, Banking Officer.
1985 Directors are C. D. Acker, Michael D. Banks, DDS,
Royce M. Beall, Larry D. Bolton, John Deibel, A. E. Garrett,
Gary C. Godfrey, E. R. Gregg Jr., Mary Harris, Kimball T.
Hillencamp, Thomas L. Lee, Earl McGaughey, Dr. L. W.
Ralston, C. R. Thompson, Burns T. Tilton, John B. White,
and J. B. White Jr., Advisory Directory.629
