Aristolochia ringens, or the Dutchman’s Pipe,  is a vine in the birthwort family, Aristolochiaceae. It is native to Bolivia, Columbia, Panama, and Venezuela. A. ringens produces winged seeds adapted for wind dispersal. This vine is considered to be invasive in some areas, so take precautions when growing. Aristolochia ringens has been used medicinally traditionally to counteract snake venom. It has also been used to treat seizures, increase sexual desire, boost the immune system, weight loss,  intestinal pain, achy joints, arthritis, eczema, gout, and insomnia. Studies show that ingestion of A. ringens can be damaging to the kidneys and urinary tract. Aristolochia ringens are hardy to zone 10a.

Plant the seeds directly on the surface of a well draining potting soil. Sprinkle a fine layer of soil over the seeds and water. Keep the soil moist, but not soaking wet and keep between 70°F to 80°F for best results. Germination typically takes 1 to 3 months.
