WGN America’s “Manhattan,” the new scripted drama about the development of the first atomic bomb, has added its final lab tech.

Orange Is the New Black” and “The Big C’s” Michael Chernus is the last series regular to sign on and will play Louis “Fritz” Fedowitz, one of the geniuses working under Frank Winter (John Benjamin Hickey). The cast includes Rachel Brosnahan, Christopher Denham, Katja Herbers, Harry Lloyd, Daniel Stern, Olivia Williams and Ashley Zukerman.

Chernus, whose name is coincidentally similar to that of WGN America prexy and g.m. Matt Cherniss, is repped by UTA, manager Jill Kaplan and Felker Toczek.

“Manhattan” has a 13-episode order and is a production of Skydance Television, Tribune Studios and Lionsgate Television. Executive producers are scribe and creator Sam Shaw (“Masters of Sex“) , alongside executive producers David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Marcy Ross and Dustin Thomason. Thomas Schlamme (“The West Wing,” “Sports Night”) directs and also serves as executive producer under his Shoe Money Productions banner.

The show will premiere this summer.
