Botanical Name: Annona ubatubensis

General Information: Annona ubatubensis is a rare and small tree belonging to the Annonaceae family. It is native to semideciduous Atlantic coastal forests in southern Brazil and is listed as near-threatened by the IUCN. This tree is highly adaptable and can thrive in warm temperate as well as most tropical climates. Notably, it stands out for its cold hardiness, making it one of the hardier species within the Annona genus.

Leaves: Simple, oblong leaves.

Flowers: Small, cream-colored flowers.

Fruits: Small, yellowish to orange fruits with a rough surface. The whitish translucent flesh is edible and sweet, reminiscent of Cherimoya.

Health Potential: Annona Ubatubensis shares similarities with Annona muricata, and both plants have demonstrated promising compounds with potential applications in cancer treatment. Extracts from A. Muricata, in particular, are known for their effectiveness against cancer cells.
