Archontophoenix maxima is a palm species native to various habitats, including rainforest, gallery forest, and wet sclerophyll forest. It is primarily found in the Walsh River and its tributaries on the western Atherton Tablelands, as well as the nearby Mt Haig Range in central Atherton Tableland, Queensland. This palm species can grow up to 50 feet in height. Its leaves are rigid, ascending, and measure between 3.5 to 4 meters in length, featuring a moderate lateral twist. The crownshaft is mid-green, and the pinnae lack ramenta on the midrib below, characterized by a prominent midrib. Archontophoenix maxima is distinguished by having the largest inflorescence among its genus, reaching up to 1.5 meters in length, with white flowers. The fruit turns red at maturity, measuring 13-15 mm long. Known for its hardiness, some specimens can survive temperatures as low as 24.1°F without frost or overhead canopy, although leafburn may occur.
