Dillsboro mayor to step down

DILLSBORO, N.C. (WLOS) — The mayor of Dillsboro has announced he's stepping down before the end of his term. Mayor Mike Fitzgerald has been in office for 16 years.

Vice mayor David Jones will take his place until the November election.

Town officials said Fitzgerald is retiring and relocating to Haywood County, which disqualifies him from serving as the town's mayor.
