Gelatin silver print (20" x 14 ½"). Signed by the photographer. A few tiny specks on the image surface, near fine. A large, striking image of the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and novelist Robert Penn Warren, the United States' first poet laureate. The photo was taken inside the barn where Warren wrote for many years, by the Connecticut photographer and graphic artist Joel Katz. A student of Walker Evans at the Yale School of Art, Katz won the Henry H. Strong Prize for American Literature in 1965 for his photographic essay of African-Americans in Mississippi taken during the Freedom Summer of 1964. An intimate and beautifully composed portrait of Warren at his home on Jennings Farm in Fairfield, Connecticut. Seller Inventory # 546892
