Eastern Red Bat (Lasiurus borealis)

This migratory species was an unexpected surprise and the first I have ever seen. It was hanging upside down in the open on a tree limb. From a distance it looked like a dead leaf. Note the distinctive white shoulder patches. I believe this is a male. Females are usually duller with more frosty white tips to their fur. Unlike most bats, this species typically roosts in the open in trees and not in cavities or caves.

Super sharp. I'm guessing it is sleeping and not moving at all. Didn't know a bat could be migrant too.
