Bratsera Hotel
Hydra, Greece
‘This used to be a sponge factory, and because it was previously an industrial space it feels quite raw, but I really loved it. The service is great and it’s right in town on the north of the island. There is a pool, but I’m a little sun shy; I’ll go to a pool, or a beach if there is one, but I couldn’t spend a whole day lying there. I don’t have that gene, and children on the beach require a lot of attention, so now it’s all “Stop! You’re getting sand on the towels!”’

Hotel Skeppsholmen
Stokholm, Sweden
‘In a former barracks, this place is incredibly nice and very good for families. There’s a modern-art gallery, Moderna Museet, right near the hotel, which has a play area with carers so you can drop off your toddler. It’s so thoughtful. Swedish people also seem to be clever at using old things and making them new and cool. That’s what they have done here. We got to know the gentleman working on the front desk, and we’ve stayed friends. We see him when he comes to New York.’
