This is a long overdue addition to my Marantz PM6006 integrated amp with no Bluetooth cap ability. I'm using it to play music from my laptop, mostly live concerts. It pairs instantly every time. I went down a small rabbit hole online and learned that Windows 11 does not use the AptX-HD codec by default. I was able to configure it to use that codec, and wow, the difference was instantly noticeable. The light on the B1 glows orange when you're using AptX-HD. The sound quality is sufficient that I don't miss my Dragonfly Cobalt DAC, which developed a loose connection and became unusable. And I'm loving the convenience of the wireless.

Pros: AptX-HD sounds great, easy pairing to laptop, optical cable connection.

Cons: None

Very simple to setup and use. Bluetooth connects quickly. A great way to enhance the usability of an older analog amplifier.

Pros: Bluetooth range is broader than standard Bluetooth devices. The DAC outputs high quality analog audio.

Cons: It's a little more expensive than other options, but definitely worth the extra investment.

I have it hooked up to 20 year old Yamaha a/v receiver. Excellent sound quality. Has the same voltage output as a cd player, so no need to turn up the volume. Set up was easy. It's a little pricey, but hopefully it's built to last. The only minor issue is you have to pair it with your streaming device before each use. That takes all of 5 seconds, so not a big deal.

Great little gadget! Had it set up in like, five seconds (okay, two or three minutes) and the sound quality using my phone as a source is really quite good. I assume the DAC is helping a great deal on that. Highly recommended, inexpensive way to stretch the life of good older amps and receivers!

Pros: Easy setup Great Bluetooth range

I just love it when stuff works like you wanted and expected to. I wanted to hear my digital music lists on my sweet old school system (which rocks) in my shop. Found the B1 on Crutchfield's site and since everything I've ordered from them has been great I thought I'd give it a go. Ordering and shipping were super smooth. Out of the box w nice cables and we're plugged in. It connects to my phone or laptop in seconds every time. No muss, no fuss. Exactly what I wanted. Thanks Crutchfield ;-)

Pros: Simple and easy. Links up fast. Small compact size.

Cons: Not really. I found some cheaper ones on the net but I wanted something that was really going to work. The B1's been great.

This is a bit pricier than some other bluetooth receivers, but the sound quality is absolutely impressive. I previously thought vinyl quality outdid digital, but this little unit has me rethinking that completely. My vintage Kenwood integrated amp has never sounded as good as it does being fed by this B1. Highly recommended!

Pros: Outstanding sound quality, easy setup.

Cons: Seems to hesitate connecting when using multiple BT items (2 or 3 phones from myself and my kids). It works well, just takes some getting used to how to switch between devices.

Awesome product! It literally took about a minute to get it set up and working! No issues connecting with a Samsung Galaxy Android cell and the free-but-good Musicolet App I run. Sound quality is great! Range is great! No drop-outs or 'gaps'! Great to be able to sit in the backyard with my Crutchfield-supplied Klipsh Rock Speakers and have total control over my tunes without ever having to get up! I love that it enabled me to keep all of the nice gear I've bought over the years and just add streaming without having to chuck everything and start all over $$$$$$$$! GREAT product from a GREAT seller! (And, yes, I still listen to DAT, CD, Vinyl, & even Tape! LOL)

Immediate Sound Quality Difference

Raymond from Commerce Twp, MI on 7/5/2023

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

I've used a couple different inexpensive Bluetooth adapters over the years with 2 audio systems in the house. I'd been relatively pleased with the sound, but always felt something was missing. The difference is astounding! Bass is tighter, mids and highs are more expansive, sound stage is actually there now. I attribute the difference to higher quality components and the internal DAC in the B1. I know the unit needs a little more time to burn in, but the sound quality difference was immediate.

Pros:

Cons: For the price, it would be nice to see a better quality cable included.

This little GEM is awesome - use my phone to demo future purchases and even though the sound is very nice it lacks a little depth compared to a quality disk run on my system - Lacks a little on the low end but is easily fixed with a little tone movement Music is still very nice - just nicer from a straight hook up. Went with the optik cable may try the DAC out with some analog/RCA next after I've had fun with this set up for a while. Keeper

Was looking for at least 100 ft range as stated in the details for the prduct, but it actually has more like 130-150 when in direct line of sight, I sat the unit on top of a speaker in a open window I listwn to outside, works very well, but had to turn up the stereo volume but then it works fine and very good sound no hissing or buzzing at all, pretty much crystal clear sound to me.

Pros: Turns off automatically after you disconect your phones Bluetooth connection after 10 min.

Cons: Costs is considerable, but not as expensive as some others. I am not sure how many phones it can pair and save.

My Yamaha integrated amplifier has a docking station, that now, after 15+ years has quit working. Since I have been unable to find another, new docking station, I sampled the Audioengine B1. Works great! Very smooth sound, seamless to connect via the digital optical cable. Very open sound stage, solid low end and smooth vocals. Has an excellent built-in DAC. Zero background noise from the unit. Only wish it had an on/off switch. That's my only complaint. That's because I run more than one BT adapter in the house. Sound wise, it's an excellent unit!

Over the years, I've ordered almost all my equipment from Crutchfield and have been exceedingly happy. The customer service is exemplary and the gear is first rate. And so it pains me to write this review. After a week of living with the Audioengine B1, I'm retiring it for good. I bought it to stream music and podcasts through my bedroom stereo system. I use a Cambridge integrated amplifier, which is not Bluetooth enabled. I wanted to eschew the iPhone for better sound. Unfortunately, the phone sounds better because it is at least clear and unmuddled. The Audioengine B1 produces a sound which is cavernous, colored (almost no treble), muddy, and fatiguing. Even with the treble turned all the way up, the result is terribly disappointing. The best word I can think of to describe this product is "unmusical."

You could even see the difference on my 32 year old Kenwood equalizer. With the cheap DAC's levels were only about half but with audio engine all pinned to the top. Range is also excellent. I also like that all the jacks and ports are located in the rear, others have front and back so you have to keep it sideways. Other more expensive DAC's have a 1 year warranty but this has 3 years and for this price it's a no brainer !!!

Pros: Small, amazing sound, excellent range all ports and jacks in rear, looks neat, 3 year warranty

Cons: None

This little thing works great and sounds as good as a wired connection. I find myself listening to more music than before. (that can't be bad) I also play in a band and use it to play music through my PA system during breaks. This is the second one I've purchased, both from Crutchfield. I saw it being suggested in an online review as the one to buy if you "actually care about the quality of the sound". I certainly agree. The Crutchfield price was as low as anywhere on the web and the service there is superb.

Added the B1 to my old TEAC receiver via the RCA connectors to a spare AUX input. Setup and pairing took less than 5 minutes. Using it to stream Pandora & Spotify from iPhone and my digitized CDs from a laptop. Sound quality is just as good as playing the CDs directly in the TEAC. Haven't fully explored max range limits but its been fine from iPhone outside on the patio to the B1 several rooms away inside the house. Also - hats off to Tech Advisor JP who walked me through my options, checked to make sure my existing equipment had the needed connectors and reminded me I had some Crutchfield Rewards to apply. My order arrived the next day. Dealing with JP and Crutchfield was a pleasure.

Very pleased with this unit. Wasn't sure how much of a difference this would make (compared to streaming Spotify from my computer to an Alexa device connected to my receiver). But this seems to make a huge difference in sound. You can hear so much more detail from the music (the hi-hat cymbals, the squeak of the acoustic guitar strings, vocals. I have this hooked up to a Marantz integrated amp. Occasionally it will randomly drop the bluetooth connection, but overall I'm extremely happy with this purchase and with the enhanced sound.

Getting back to appreciating music and audio. Recently picked up this device to connect to my old Rotel preamp/amp setup. Sounds great out of the box with the built-in DAC. My source is mainly my mobile and iPad playing Hi-Res youtube audio and Pandora. As of today, it's connected to my new Yamaha AS701. Optical out to the 701 is my current preference. Well, loving music again! My only gripe is you have to disconnect the previously connected device if you want a new device to connect to it. A little annoying as I often switch between my iPad, iBook, and mobile. If you have a dedicated device, not an issue.

Works beautifully right out of the box. So far I used it to stream Apple Music from my MacBook Pro M1. There was a review here stating that there is a problem of this receiver streaming from Apple Music. So in my experience this is completely untrue. I think the quality of the sound is outstanding. I use currently analog output and this tells me that the DAC in this little device is very good.

This thing works great and it connects and disconnects easier than my last receiver did actually. I use it with a Yamaha A-S501 integrated amp as that does not come with bluetooth. I am very happy with the quality of the sound that it delivers and I would guess it has it's own DAC to do that but I am not very knowledgeable about that. I do know it sounds great and is seamless with connecting immediately and is well worth spending the extra money as opposed to some of the less expensive ones that I tried and they worked awful. One of them wouldn't even recognize my Macbook Pro to play music from my personal collection on my laptop but this recognized my 2017 Macbook Pro (and still using Mojove at that) immediately as well as my iPhone too. Def worth spending the money so glad I found this spend the ectra few bucks you will not regret it.

I bought an Audioengine B1 to replace a Helios BTR which I also bought from Crutchfield. The Helios BTR is a Yugo, and the Audioengine B1 is a Mercedes because: 1. The Helios BTR failed after less than 1 year. 2. The Helios BTR has a low SNR, I could hear it "singing" during quiet passages in music. 3. The Audioengine B1 has a button to terminate current pairing (very handy); Helios BTR does not. 4. The Audioengine B1 sounds really, really good. First time I fired it up, I was astounded by the difference in sound quality. 5. The Audioengine B1 has a 3-year warranty. 6. The Audioengine B1 has a larger range, I can carry the device I am streaming from, all over the house without music stuttering or stopping.

Pros: excellent sound quality and range, high-quality construction, good warranty, pairing termination button

I was using a less expensive blue tooth receiver and decided to upgrade to the Audioengine B1. I'm very glad that I did because the sound quality is outstanding. I didn't realize that there would be such a noticeable difference in clarity and sound. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone.

It's still burning in, but so far I like it. There is almost a soundstage, depending on the recording. Prior to, I was using Apple Air Play, but unfortunately things wear out and, and Airport Express is no longer made , so I was no longer able to play downloaded music out of my Mac into a two channel tube stereo . One minor snic though... If I'm switching between my Mac and my phone; I must click off one device, and then reconnect with the other device.... But the A-B1 remembers each device so it's just remembering to click on or off the Audioengine icon...... J

Amazing audio for bluetooth streaming. Plugged this into my Pioneer SA-7100. The built in DAC on this is incredible. Absolutely crystal clear compared to cheaper bluetooth connection I was using before this. Worth the cost if you must stream or haven't pulled the plug yet on a more expensive network/server DAC

Pairing is spot on. Sound is great as well. I bumped one star for the following. Once the b1 is on and running, mine must be manually turned off and on to keep the bluetooth from hooking onto everything I'm doing on my phone. I purchased this audio engine for streaming sirius, apple, tidal, amazon music, etc. only. Every time I turn it off to avoid this problem, I have to dump audio engine from my bluetooth selections on my iPhone and start the pairing all over. This is a hastle for sure. Other than this, the unit is awesome.

Ordered the Audio Engine B1 from Crutchfield about 3 months ago to allow streaming Apple Music to my 24 year old Yamaha receiver. It works very well with my iPhone 11, older iPadPro, and Apple MacBook Air (2020, M1) and a headphone amp that I have tried. IMO, a Bluetooth connection gives up a bit of sound quality to a wired connection in exchange for convenience, and the B1 seems no better or worse than any other Bluetooth device in this respect. So far, it's never failed to connect quickly or dropped a connection, and it's range is excellent, so I highly recommend it. The only thing I don't like about it is the inconvenience of its wall-wart power supply :-(

Pros: Reliable and works well

Cons: None

This is definitely an example of "you get what you pay for". While there are many much cheaper blue-tooth adapters, the Audioengine B1 is worth every penny. It worked perfectly with my early 90's AV receiver. I immediately started streaming songs I know well that I own on CD, and they sounded as good or better streaming. I was pleasantly shocked. It is small, very well constructed and comes with cables as well. I was up and running in less than 2 minutes. It was easy to pair with my phone and the signal never dropped. I would recommend this product without hesitation.

Pros: Easy to use. Easy to set up. Fantastic sound.

Cons: None.

This is my first blue-tooth adapter so have no real frame of reference but, it seems to work really well! It was fairly easy to connect so appreciate that aspect! I haven't had it long enough to make a true assessment but so far it's pretty good! In my mind there's always different sound from various formats? Digital streaming at times can lose various nuances compared to vinyl or CD's. I think I get more low end when using this device but, then clarity seems to be sacrificed in other aspects? Could be my receiver also? I plan to upgrade in the future! Over-all though it's very nice and convenient having the signal range so as not to have to be in close proximity of device!

I used this to add bluetooth capability to a Sonos Amp. I am really happy I went with the Audioengine B1 over less expensive options. Setup was quick and easy, the connection is solid, and audio quality is great. I have a feeling this saves money over buying a couple of cheaper options, only to end up in the same place later. I use this to connect my Peloton to the audio system in the room and it automatically connects each time and eliminated the use of the 3.5mm cable dangling from the Peloton screen.

Pros: Easy setup Stable connection Great sound quality

Cons: Pricey compared to other options, but worth it if you appreciate the class leading sound quality.

Wow. This adapter is HI-Fi! Connected to my vintage stereo setup (Adcom GFA 5400 amp and preamp with Paradigm Studio v0.6 reference speakers) Took about 2 mins and I was hearing some of the best stereo sound I've ever heard. Highly recommend. The bass is solid and highs are crisp. Stereo separation is excellent. No noise at very high volume. I hate to say it but this rivals my beloved turntable. but not quite. ;-). You WON'T be disappointed with this fairly low cost Bluetooth converter.

Pros: -Easy setup -Zero noise at max volume -Stupid good sound -Stereo definition is excellent -Small size makes it easy to hide in your stereo cabinet

Good & bad-I purchased 2 of these, one for my home and one for my shop. The good: The range from devise to B1 is impressive. Far better than other blue tooth devises I tried. The sound quality is fantastic. The bad: about a year ago both B1's started having an issue paring to my Apple devises. Different devises, different update levels. After fighting it for a while I got ahold of tech support at Audio Engine. They advised the B1 and Apple Music don't get along. Use another streaming service and the B1 will be fine. They were right, Spotify, Iheart radio, SiriusXM are all fine. The issue is my entire digital catalog is on Apple Music. (8,000 tracks +-) That has forced me back here shopping for a different Bluetooth devise.

Impressive. Seriously, I didn't think Bluetooth could sound this good. I initially streamed some Spotify music to try it out and make sure it paired with my phone. This little gem had paired with my phone before I found a playlist to listen to. I sat down to see how it sounded, not expecting much really. The first thing that caught my ear was the depth of the bass, and then I heard detail that's not normally associated with Bluetooth. Listened to a couple of songs and then switched to the Qobuz app. It was immediately apparent that this little box is most definitely worth the money. ???? Buy one. You will be glad you did.

fair performance at best

JB from Seattle, WA on 6/25/2021

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

I have had the Audioengine B1 for 3 years now. Performance was generally good with some limitations at first: the 100 foot possible range was not realistic. Going around a corner in the house 30 feet away the signal would break up. Similarly, being outside 10-15 feet from the receiver with one wall or even just a window could cause loss of signal. After a year or so, the signal streaming would break up even with the streaming source and bluetooth receiver in the same room 10 feet apart. I contacted Crutchfield, and typical to their best customer service, they replaced the item at no charge. The newer item worked acceptably for another 2 years and began to have the same signal breakup even at close range. It is now out of warranty (3yr), so I will be looking for another model to replace it. I appreciate Crutchfield for their excellent customer service with this and other products I have bought. But I would not buy this product again.

Pros: Has multiple connection options. Good performance when it is working.

Cons: Range is only fair

Verified employee review (What's this?)

My purchase of the Audioengine B1 came after some in-depth research on adding Bluetooth connectivity to a vintage audio system. After several articles and a dearth of customer reviews, this device felt like the ideal match for connecting my stereo to streaming services. Crutchfield earned my purchase with availability, pricing, and fast delivery. The adapter was well-packaged with audio cables, a power setup, and a soft-sided carrying pouch so you can take the device with you. The B1 was simple to pair upon startup, and it took less than 5 minutes to get great sounding music streaming from my phone. This unit connects my Technics SA-202 and Klipsch KG 1.2 bookshelf speakers to great content from Spotify, Apple Music, and others. I plugged in my V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex headphones for a spacious and dynamic experience. I am thrilled to see how my listening changes as the unit goes through the 40-50 hour break-in period described in the owner's manual. This is a terrific purchase that will no doubt move through my changing home audio system for years to come. Great product, and top-notch service from Crutchfield. Thank you!

Pros: Ease of setup and use Form factor - slightly bigger than a tri-fold wallet Fantastic audio quality Reliable connectivity throughout my home

Improvement to my sound system

Kparl from Melbourne, FL on 5/21/2021

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

I did a lot of shopping and reading reviews before I chose the Audio engine B1. It's simple enough to hook up, I used the phono plugs on my receiver/amp which were empty. The sound quality is truly amazing. I put on the new album Songs of Comfort and Hope, Yo-Yo Ma latest work, a collaboration with Kathryn Stoot. The source was my IPhone-7. The full sound stage, crisp lush highs and fat trembling bass notes and a live feeling are sounds that my CD player or other sources have never delivered. Admittedly I downsized my speaker system from some 3 foot tall BICs to a Bose AM-5 years ago so and gave up the soundstage for compactness. This is the first time I can say I'm pleased with the sound quality since owning this system. I could have bought a lot cheaper than the Audioengine but didn't want to lose even more quality and it turns out I have definitely improved the sound a lot.

Pros: Great sound quality with seamless data transfer, no drops or pauses.

This unit is very easy to set up and pair with an I-phone. I have it connected to my Denon receiver, A Carver TMF-60 amplifier. For speakers I have a Vandersteen Subwoofer and Hales Revelation III main speakers. When streaming music with Pandora The sound is very nice, but it is not intended for HIFI quality listening. However for the middle of the line unit the music is amazing.

Pros: Very nice unit. It is small and can be tucked away were you can't see it and the music is very nice for the price.

When you think you know old school, then integrate new tech... relax. This was one of my greatest purchases in audio. Plug and play all the way. Solved my dreams of making my vintage McIntosh catch up. Loved the sound, loved the simplicity. I will be purchasing another two. By the way, the reviews of the Audioengine B1 were valid in all aspects.

Pros: Plug n Play

I have the audioengine hd3 speakers that sound great so i bought this thing for my traditional stereo. It works great and sounds great. To get the full benefit make sure your device transmitting the bt signal has aptx hd (most flagship lg phones for example). The only tiny gripe is that this is very lightweight. With semi-hefty rca cables attached, it's hard to get this to sit flat. The cables pull it all over the place and make it tilt off it's base. I am thinking of using velcro to keep it in place but not sure i want leave the tape residue on it. You can hide it easily, but the pics of this thing sitting nicely on top of a speaker are misleading. A stiff wind will take this thing flying.

Pros: Sound quality and ease of use.

Cons: Very lightweight.

The Audioengine B1 just turned my 40 year old analog receiver into a Bluetooth enabled device! Where we live there is almost no FM radio reception but now I can play Sirius/XM streaming music through my Pioneer receiver and ESS speakers. Sound is wonderful and stereo separation is better than expected. Set-up was easy, even for a dinosaur like me. The B1 is so small as to be virtually invisible on the back of a shelf. Great product!

The unit is simply awesome. I postponed going Bluetooth on my very vintage system for a long time thinking it would disappoint me. I bought one for my studio where my sound is a 60 year old Mac 1700 tube amp and a 50 year old pair of Kilpsch Cornwalls. The clean sound completely blew me away. Three days later I bought one for my home. You won't be disappointed. Enough said!

Excellent device! I purchased this unit because I own a classic Denon PMA-2000R amplifier. This unit integrates beautifully with my android and my laptop to play SiriusXM on my stereo. Good quality sound and separation between channels. The only small drawback is that it plays lower than my other components, but it's not a drastic change in volume.

Pros: Good way to update your classic stereo.

Cons: A little loss of volume level between components.

The first adapter I ordered was DOA and would not connect without interference. I reached out to Crutchfield tech support and we tried to fix the issue. Unfortunately it was determined to be a defective product. The tech was awesome and immediately sent out a new device. It has worked flawlessly since receiving it. I have this hooked up to my 2 channel Outlaw receiver. I use a optical cable to bypass the adapter's DAC and instead use my receiver's internal DAC. The sound is amazing. It is much better sounding than my old Denon's internal bluetooth. I'm sure if I was using the DAC in the adapter it would sound great too. This device is super easy to hookup and use. It connects almost instantly and has worked great after the initial issue. Yes it's more expensive than other adapters by why compromise your audiophile equipment with a cheap streaming/Bluetooth adapter?

Pros: Great connection. Excellent music quality Easy to use Very little if any lag

Cons: None

Connects easily out of the box and whenever you wish to use it. There is virtually no learning curve required. Sounds great. I already had a Cambridge WiFi DAC but the Audioengine is much easier to use. I thought the Cambridge might sound a half a tich better until I realized that you can adjust the Audioengine to a newer higher rez Bluetooth connection and now I don't think I can discern any difference, and this with my iPhone playing primarily Lossless AAC's ripped from my CD's running through a Macintosh amp and preamp to NHT 3.3 speakers.

Pros: Fair price, extremely easy to set up and use, sounds great.

I wasn't really using this much as I had in an upstairs low-usage room. With COVID-19 I've been using the main 2017/2018 Yamaha stereo and NHT speakers. I spent a few months listening to Pandora via Bluetooth with Samsung phone to the receiver, and now a few months of phone to Audioengine to Yamaha set-up. It is clear and obvious that the sound wnen using this Audioengine is preferable to me. One thing for is the clear 'ting' of a cymbal, and just a nice full sound. Connecting the phone to the Audioengine always just works. I did not hook up the Audioengine downstairs on the Yamaha because I assumed it would not be better than a year 2018 stereo receiver. Maybe it just 'flavors' the sound the way I like, I don't know. But, I've now unfortunately had way more time indoors over these past momths.

Preliminary Report

Jonathan from AUSTIN, TX on 7/14/2020

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

Just received this about a half-hour ago--this gadget seems to be exactly what I've been looking for. Being of the "I don't need no stinking directions' school of thought, I had it hooked up and playing in about 5 minutes. The Audioengine is delivering my music to me 20 feet away through a 1/2" fiberboard wall with "radiant barrier" (a thin foil layer laminated on the inside face of the fiberboard). It'll go out to 25-30' if I need it to. Placement is likely pretty important, so I'll play around with it looking for its optimal home spot. Or maybe not; hey it works where it is. Back story is that I bought some outdoor speakers at Crutchfield a couple of years ago so I could enjoy music outside my man cave. This was the best purchase I'd made in a long time. I got tired, however, of having to get up and change the music and otherwise diddle with it. So I bought a long wire--3.5mm to stereo RCAs--so I could use my phone as head unit sans all the exercise. Having to reel out and back in the umbilicus got old after I subscribed to a music streaming service the other day and now listen to music a lot more. 108° in the shade notwithstanding.

Pros: So far, so good--works fine.

AudioEngine B1 | Amazing addition for non-Blue-Tooth audio systems

Crutchfield customer from Seattle, WA on 7/12/2020

The AudioEngine B1 is an amazing addition for non-Blue-Tooth audio systems. It readily sets up right out of the box, and within a couple minutes you have perfect wireless audio. Moreover, it has a built-in Digital Audio Converter (DAC). As a result, the music sounds deeper and fuller than with a typical RCA split-wired connection through the aux inputs on your receiver or integrated amp. If you listen to music from a smart phone, this is a must have product. Highly recommend this item!

Pros: Ease of connection Ease of use Strength of BlueTooth signal

Cons: None.

Great link for Bluetooth Listening

The Audioengine B1 has worked flawlessly from the first hookup. Crutchfield did a great job of packaging (a box within a box, within a box!). I easily attached the unit to my Rotel receiver, driving my B&W 704 speakers, and can now listen, via Bluetooth, to all of my iTunes music, even those albums I've downloaded from CDs.

Pros: Simple hookup; gold-plated RCA plugs; status indicator light; great sound via Bluetooth

Cons: Funky power cable

A nice upgrade and worth the investment!

Crutchfield customer from Nashua, NH on 6/9/2020

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

A nice upgrade! I have the Rotel RSP-1582 Processor which is an excellent unit! Anything that said Rotel is as good as you'll get, but that's another review...Anyway even though the Rotel is one of the best processors on the market I couldn't help but feel like it's built in BT might not be on par with the Audioengine B1. Though I wouldn't consider it a huge upgrade, adding the B1 definitely gave an improvement in overall sound quality than the built in BT on the Rotel. When you are as invested in your audio/ht setup as I am you're willing to spend the extra $$ to gain even the slightest upgrade in overall sound. In my opinion the $189 spent on the B1 was worth every penny. The most noticeable improvement was in the bass response of my subs (I have 3 SVS SB-4000's). Adding the B1 gave more punch to music. I also notice more snap and clarity in the mids as well. Not a huge difference but big enough to my ears to make this a worthwhile investment. I no longer use the Rotel's built in BT, I now use the B1 every time instead!

Pros: Added more punch, snap, and detail over my processor's built in BT

Cons: A little expensive, but worth it in my opinion.

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Good reception, even in my 112 year old building in San Francisco (very thick lath and plater walls). Signal does not drop. One odd thing: On one internet station (KOZT) through the myTuner Pro app, everything is sped up (DJ, commercials, music) by, maybe, 1 whole note (12%?). Quite noticeable...I remedied by disconnecting and reconnecting. Note, it was only this one station via this app, but it happened on multiple occasions - but not every time.....Note Audioengine says in their instruction booklet the device takes "about 50 hours" to burn in...time will tell. As noted, I have been able to correct.....

Pros: Good reception Does not drop

Cons: Speeds up on one station...correctible, so far, every instance

Awesome product! This Bluetooth Music Receiver is the best one I've ever owned. I have tried others in the past only to finally breakdown and purchase the B1. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. My wife loves it as we sit outside by the fire-pit and she can control her music from her iPhone. The range is incredible, and trust me, it goes through walls like they're not even there. It is plug and play out of the box which is refreshing when working on a complicated home audio set up. Also, connecting to your devices is quick and easy and I haven't had one problem yet. Lastly, the quality is a welcome surprise. Playing though a 1977 Sansui receiver and speakers, we needed a modern upgrade that was compatible but also matched the high quality we were looking for. I'm impressed with this Bluetooth receiver. It's not cheap, but it really delivers over less expensive alternatives. Both the sound quality and the receiving distance is a big step above what I was using, and it's really nice to have L/R RCA outputs instead of just the 1/8 in. jack you find on lower quality receivers.

Pros: Excellent sound quality, great receive distance and it pairs better/more quickly than any Bluetooth device I've ever used.

Cons: It's expensive, but worth the price in my opinion.

Suggested by Crutchfield Expert. Easy setup and it does work as advertised except for the 100' range claim. In my house and it's location I am getting 50' range at best, probably won't return because we have a work around by leaving phone/ipad in range and playing music to back yard speakers. Other options are too pricey, so I guess I get what I paid for.

Verified employee review (What's this?)

My objective was to add streaming audio capability to a vintage receiver. The Audioengine B1 was easy to install. The quality of streaming sound is good, not superb. I am streaming to a 1970's vintage Pioneer 626 receiver from an iPhone 11 and and iMac desktop. Music sources for streaming are iTunes and Amazon Prime Music. The Audioengine B1 is attached to the AUX inlet via the included RCA cord. The receiver plays through B&W DM-600 bookshelf speakers. CD's, played on a 20 year old Yamaha player, connected to the same Pioneer receiver, have a brighter, crisper sound with fuller range. Overall I would say the unit does the job of streaming audio well. The device connects quickly when initiating streaming. I have not experienced disconnects while playing music. The device is located about 10 feet from my desktop PC. When streaming from my iPhone I occasionally walk around the room and into an adjacent room.

Pros: Ease of setup. Connection reliability.

Cons: Cost. Clarity and range of sound.

Great Sound, BT Compatibility Issue, MIA Customer Support

Verified employee review (What's this?)

The sound is great when played with AptX HD. The output signal is on par with other devices connected to my receiver. So there is no drop in volume when switching between the Audioengine B1 and other input sources. The reason for the two star rating is because of a Bluetooth compatibility issue (unable to control volume with my Sony NW-A45) and the lack of customer support. I've tried to contacted Audioengine customer support multiple times without any luck. I am on the fence about returning this item.

Pros: Great Sound

I purchased this with a Cambridge Audio CXA 80 Integrated Amplifier I just purchased. Spoke with Kevin in customer service and we came up with this solution instead of spending the extra money on the CXA 81 that has the Bluetooth built in (i was on a budget). i must say that I was a little concerned about the sound quality of this unit because I didn't have much luck with the other unit (another brand) I had purchased earlier. I expected a little more out of this unit mainly due to the price difference. I definitely delivered. Very happy with the sound quality. The first time I paired it with my Iphone I was a little disappointed but then realized i had the volume on my phone turned about halfway up. It sounds Great!!! I also bought a toslink cable and hooked it up the other day. Made a difference too. A little Pricey but Worth the extra money

The audio engine B1 does what it is supposed to do. I connected it to my Denon receiver and paired it with an Amazon Echo device. Now I just tell Alexa to connect to Bluetooth device, and to play whatever I want from Spotify. Great solution until I am ready to get a new receiver.

Pros: Easy to set up Great sound

I didn't give it 5 starts because I just started using it today. So far I'm impressed. Good build quality. Seems like good sound and I get to use an old receiver in the garage that was just collecting dust. The range is so good I was still connected at the absolute opposite end of my house. You can see it up on the receiver, top right in the picture.

Pros: Range. Ease of use Connectivity Sound

Cons: Volume level seems lower than other sources. That's about it.

I recently had to update my iPhone and had to have this to listen to my music on an old Yamaha receiver. You get what you pay for there are lots of cheaper products out there but this unit is built well and works perfectly. The sound is amazing listening to Tidal and also I tunes. Very happy with this purchase which was much cheaper than buying a new bluetooth ready receiver. I did use some better high end RCA cables which I think make a difference, the ones that come with the unit will work fine but I like the quality sound from the higher end cables. I like this so good I am going to buy one for my son who also just updated his iPhone. As always thanks to my Crutchfield advisor Lee for helping me out once again.

Pros: Sound quality range ease of pairing

Works as intended. Not sure why anyone would complain about the range, I wish it was shorter... walked 2 rooms away and it's still playing, no problem. So much so you have to disconnect so you can connect to another bluetooth device in the other room... lol. Sound great, connection is easy, only reason not getting 5 stars is the rca patch cord included in the box didn't work - had one channel (the left) that was dead, no worries, used one of the 10 other patch cords I had laying around.

Pros: Great bluetooth range, sound is great, and works well!

Cons: Bluetooth range can almost be too good if you have other bluetooth sources to connect to in other rooms.

I am very pleased with this product and this purchase. I bought this to solve a problem that had been annoying me for years. The zone 2 and 3 play from my Marantz receiver will not play HDMI sources or Apple Play, so streaming music to my deck or den speakers was pretty limited. Audioengine B1 solved the problem brilliantly. I hooked it up to an aux input on the Marantz using RCA jacks, and now I get outstanding quality music from any source on my devices, on any or all zones in my house. Life is good...

Pros: Easy hookup Great sound Did exactly what I wanted it to do Good range

Cons: Not cheap, but a quality product that I will enjoy for years

Verified employee review (What's this?)

I first considered the less expensive Harmon Kardon BTA10 which was in my price range. Good reviews but was hesitant due to few bad reviews. I saw the Audioengine B1 which was out of my budget. It has a 100' range, and both Analog & Digital Outputs which sold me. My primary use was to connect it to my vintage 1975 Pioneer Receiver the option to connect it my digital receiver was an added plus. Right after it arrived I noticed that USB Power Adapter that plugs into the wall was packed in the box in two pieces from the factory. Why it was packed that way I will never know. This could not have happened during shipping. I could see it was made to come apart. I was kind of frustrated because I was having trouble putting the 2 pieces together. After several minutes of messing with it, I was finally able to get it to snap together. I believe this was an isolated incident. I connected the B1 to my Pioneer Receiver and paired it up to my iPhone very easily. The sound coming out of my receiver was very good, without any issues. I walked the phone to different rooms in the house without and breakup of audio on my receiver. Then I took the phone to the garage and walked back in the house and did notice that audio did begin to pop in and out, which was not surprising considering that two stucco walls were between the two devices. I only did this as a test. The Audioengine B1 is quality product; even though it cost more than I want to pay it was worth the extra expense.

Pros: Nice range great sound, both RCA and Optical outputs

Cons: Poor Quality Control in Packing from Factory

I absolutely love the Audioengine B1 and for a variety of reasons in addition to its excellent sound quality, range, and ease of use. This box does what it is advertised to accomplish: connect your Bluetooth device to your sound system. There are cheaper alternatives; however, this company claims that the quality of sound reproduction will be superior. So much depends on the source-iPhone or iPod and site you are streaming...also the quality of your sound system amplification and speakers. No problems with connection-easy-however, only one at a time. Once connected it will automatically reconnect.

Pros: Easy hookup and connection

Cons: Expensive way to connect your Bluetooth enabled device

Simple and great little device to bring streaming to an old stereo system. (Harmon Kardan integrated amp & Ohm Walsh 2 speakers) I use Google Play Music thru my Google Pixel 2 phone. Short of getting a new integrated amp or receiver, which would give me a remote for volume and digital hookups for TV, etc, this is the best solution for bringing streaming to my office system. I plan to try it out on my other 2 systems soon. Although I have it connected to one of my tape RCA's, it can be connected to AUX RCA's.

Pros: Simple to install, small, great quality sound (short of hi res, but really good)

Cons: Can't access Google Play Music from my PC, only phone.

Although I was aware of less expensive Bluetooth receivers and after reviewing numerous Bluetooth receivers, I opted to purchase the more expensive Audioengine B1. I am glad I did, as the Audioengine B1 has surpassed my expectations. I have it hooked up to a Sony stereo receiver in my garage and the sound quality is as good or better than when I used a cable from my iPhone to hook directly to the stereo receiver. I carry my iPhone in my pants pocket and no matter where I go in my house or in my yard, the connection has not broken. I am more than pleased with it's quality, ease of use and great receptive ability. I fully endorse this product. To add to my review, I must once again praise Crutchfield for their extraordinary ease of purchase and their quick product distribution.

Pros: quality, ease of use and extraordinary signal strength

Cons: Wish it had an on/off switch.

Let's get this out of the way... the B1 isn't cheap, its more expensive than many similar products and while I can't say if those work or not, what I can say is that the B1 is fantastic! I have a love-hate relationship with Bluetooth audio, I find it inferior to direct inputs from a source however in this digital age, being able to stream from my iPhone, iPad or computer directly to my home system is such a convenience. Speaking of convenience, the B1 is absolutely simple to set up, connect it, plug it in, pair it to your phones and tablets and you're done. Simple. In terms of sound quality, it is simply amazing! Without any doubt, It rivals direct input. Yes its small, yes at first it can seem overpriced but I tell you, its absolutely a revelation; if you have a home audio system and have cloud-based music this is without question a must-have. Worth every penny!

Pros: Fantastic sound quality Incredibly easy set-up and pairing Small size and discreet

My PC (Windows 10) is 20 feet from my amp; through a cabinet and three walls (a bathroom sink in the hypothetical line of sight) and the Audioengine works great. I have a clear signal to my old 1970's Pioneer amp driving my wired speakers through the house and out onto the pool deck. The signal is as clear as a wired connection and there has been no buffering problems. I'll spare the criticism of the $20 an $50 units that were highly recommended by various sites. One hundred feet connectivity might be possible from some of these applications but but add a wall or two and they fail. The Audioengine is head and shoulders above these low cost units.

Pros: It works through walls Easy setup and pairing to Windows 10 Worth the price

Cons: Price is higher than others - but see the Pros above!

Based on reviews from Crutchfield customers and from other sites, the Audioengine B1 seemed to be the audiofile quality bluetooth receiver to buy. I have a whole house music distribution system using older good quality analog gear (ADCOM, Nakamichi, Boston Acoustics, Niles) but I wanted to integrate Amazon Music from my iPad into the system. I have a central wire closet where I connected the AE B1. I am able to stream music from my iPad outside on the deck to the the B1 with no problem....about 20-25 ft away and through a brick wall and a couple of layers of drywall. Audio quality is surprisingly good. The only issue I have - and not one to blame on the B1 - is that my wifi access point is in the same closet and I think there may be some conflicts in the 802.11b/g spectrum. I'm planning on moving to 802.11a to resolve that issue. Thanks Crutchfield for a pleasant shopping and buying experience.

Pros: Audio quality, easy of setup, good wireless range

Cons: None so far.

I bought the B1 to replace a much cheaper bluetooth adapter, another you get what you pay for lesson. For me it is all about the range, I can now use my old whole house system speakers with my iPhone including the outdoor speakers. I can now control the digital music library on the old hardwired system... just Awesome! Oh yah the range is a solid 80 feet for my garage speakers, Awesome again!

My review of Audioengine B1 Premium Bluetooth Receiver

Charles from Jackson, KY on 5/21/2018

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

On 21 May 2018 I received an Audioengine B1 Premium Bluetooth Music Receiver from Crutchfield. I hooked it to my Yamaha C85 preamp using the included stereo RCA left and right coaxial cable to its CD player rear panel jacks. I plugged it's small power supply into the AC outlet, turned on Bluetooth in my 128GB iPhone 6s, and selected Audioengine B1 in the IPhone's Bluetooth menu and in about 10 seconds the B1 paired to my IPhone 6s and music started playing through my 4 Klipsch Klipschhorn speakers through my Yamaha M85 power amplifier. This was the missing link that I've needed for over 2 years now so I can play my iPhone 6s' music library, that has 50.4 GB from my host ASUS Windows 7 laptop computer's iTunes library and 33.37GB of Apple Music downloads (for a total iPhone 6s music library of 83.6GBs). The sound was great coming it of the 4 Klipsch Klipschorn high efficiency horn speakers. The B1 also allows control of the Yamaha C85 preamp's volume control wirelessly through my IPhone 6s' volume control. The C85 preamp has only 0.001% Total Harmonic Distortion(THD), the M85 amp has only 0.002%THD. And the B1 Premium Bluetooth Receiver has only 0.02 THD. The M85 amp runs in Class A configuration up to 30 watts RMS output and sounds great like CD quality. I am so pleased now to have this missing link to connect my iPhone 6s wirelessly in CD quality sound to my old non-Bluetooth Yamaha preamp/amp.

Pros: Quick pairing to my iPhone 6s' Bluetooth connection, CD quality wireless Bluetooth sound, can play Apple Music downloads along with my existing iTunes library through my iPhone's music app. Volume can be controlled on my iPhone wirelessly.

Cons: None

This thing is fantastic. I needed a way to.control volume of my outdoor atrium 8s. I had tried outdoor volume controls but they would.burn out due to the wattage. Even with this I can controll my system with my tablet or phone bluetooth on my upper porch and.get great sound quality. I'm talking suprisingly good quality. Set up.and pairing easy. You may have to find the right input..took me a few.tries.to find the input.on my receiver that works.the best but other.than that very easy set up. Great product and.as.always Crutchfield costumer service is the best.

Wanted to add Bluetooth connectivity to an NAD AVR. Quick search on Crutchfield and the web turned up the Audioengine B1 as being a popular and well-reviewed choice. Setup was extremely simple; just wire it up, plug it in, and pair with the source. In our case this was a MacBook Air in the kitchen, and had Spotify streaming to the system in the adjacent living room in no time. Sound is impressive. Have not had any connection issues so far either, though have not yet used it for long enough stretches to be sure. The antenna on my unit was extremely stiff. Had I not read a review in which the user stated theirs broke off, I may have grabbed it closer to the tip to turn and wound up with the same result. May be different depending on production runs, but take care in adjusting the antenna and turn it at the base. Right-angle wall-wart is also not ideal in my situation, but may not make a difference in others. Would not expect an internal transformer at this price point, but a transformer brick with separate power cable would have been nice. Overall, this seems like a great value. Being able to add Bluetooth connectivity to any system, be it a modern home theater or vintage Hi-Fi is great. Plan on testing a Benchmark DAC 1 between the B1 and receiver to gauge the B1's DAC. Given the source, i.e., streaming over WiFi, I would not expect there to be much difference. The Audioengine B1 seems a worthwhile purchase and versatile audio component.

Pros: Super simple to set up. No connection issues (so far). Great sound!

Cons: BEWARE! Antenna may be tight. Be sure to turn at base, not tip. Right-angle wall-wart that is as likely to be inconvenient for some as convenient for others.

Great Sounding Streaming Music at LAST!

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Who knew that digital streaming audio from my iTunes account could sound this good?! Well, I do, that's who! Seriously, if you're worried about your digital audio not sounding as good as your records or CDs, worry no longer. I just received the B1 an hour ago, hooked it up, and streamed from my Macbook Pro to my NAD analog receiver with older Polk Audio speakers. And now, I'm rocking my iTunes catalog, and I can play my entire digital music catalogue and enjoy it as much as my CDs and LPs. And since the B1 has a built-in DAC, I don't need to run it through my other DAC to have it sound great. Analogue stereo in a digital world. Thank you, Audioengine! (And thank you, Crutchfield for again making everything fast and easy!)

Pros: Great sound, a snap to hook up, and connection worked flawlessly the first time.

Cons: The adapter for the electrical plugs had to be jammed on pretty tightly, and I was afraid I'd break the pins. But, it went on with some force, and didn't bend the pins a bit.

The audio engine B1 is an outstanding device. I have two other Bluetooth music receivers and they don't compare to this. I plugged it in and it was ready to go. I just went to my iPhone and touched the audio engine link and presto music was playing. I hooked it up to my old Klipsch forte speakers and couldn't believe the clairity of sound. This playing Apple Music and Pandora was better than CD quality. Was worth every cent of the added cost. The more music you play the better it sounds.

Pros: Best on the market after researching everything out there

Cons: NONE not even the price once you hear it.

Better than expected, I was hoping they had integrated Bluetooth 5 by this time so I called Audioengine to see if it was in the works but they would only say it comes with 4 at this time. Crutchfield said they tested it up to 100' and as usual they were fast to answer my call, friendly and knowledgeable. Mine works at least 50' away (as far as I've tried it) and it never skips a beat. No errant sounds or anomalies, the sound is as good as the sampling rate and the source, I can't detect anything lost in the Bluetooth transition. Easy to set up, now I can stream music or Pandora from the iphone, itunes on the PC, whatever. You'll spend a few more $ for this vs others but you'll be glad you did. Smaller than I expected (see the photo). Set it and forget it, I wish all Bluetooth devices and online companies behaved this well. Thank you.

Pros: Works as well as advertised, if not better. Glad I didn't settle for something cheaper with sketchy reviews.

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Audio fidelity is comparable to a hard wired system. Connecting to my iPod and iPhone was simple and fast - as described in the instructions, but switching between the two has been frustrating. I assume one of the two sources has to have it's blue tooth inactivated for the B1 to connect to the other. Sometimes I have success only after pulling the power on the B1 and starting over - going through the initial connection steps. How to expeditiously switch between two sources, as well as quickly power off (verses engage reconnect), would be helpful.

Pros: Great sound justifies the price, no static, well constructed, is small and looks smart. Easy to initially connect and signal is strong even from another room.

Cons: Inconsistent success when switching back and forth between signal sources (maybe my lack of technical skill v. B1's).

Great sound, not so easy pairing

paul from Queens Village, NY on 8/3/2017

Verified employee review (What's this?)

I have the B1 hooked up to my harman/kardon receiver located in my living room. There is lots to like about it - easy to hook up, great sound, small and compact, and great range: I can control it from just about anywhere in my 1,500 sq ft house. My complaints are twofold: pairing and the on/off switch. When pairing, the B1 shows up on my iPhone (6S) under BT devices, but it takes multiple attempts to connect and I often have to tell the phone to forget the device and start over. This often works. My other complaint is going to sound silly, but the on/off button is the worst part. I feel like I must be missing something. Simply pressing the button often does nothing and I have to hold it down to get it to turn on and get it into pairing mode; when shutting it off, just pressing the lit button does nothing, holding it down can get it back into pairing mode again and if I walk away from it, it will eventually shut itself off. I think I will have to contact support about this.

Pros: easy to hook up; small and compact; great range and sound

Cons: difficulty pairing; turning on and of

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Audioengine B1 is worth the extra cost. I was having trouble with Bluetooth cutting out when I got more than 30 feet away from my amp. Very annoying. This unit has never cut out--or jittered. I bet the range is well in excess of 75 feet. But, I was also worried about sound quality. This unit is superb. And it also pairs easily. You have to remember that a bluetooth unit also has a DAC--digital to analog converter. A lot of the units I have used have very poor sound quality. This one is awesome. This is more expensive, but if you care about distance and top class sound quality, this is your unit

Pros: All good

Very Handy Little Device!

Verified employee review (What's this?)

I bought this almost on a whim having purchased an integrated amp that did not have wireless capability. The idea to use bluetooth to send music from my "i-device" was very appealing based on how I was planning to use the amplifier (Marantz HD-AMP1). This product came recommended should one want a bluetooth connection. The price is a bit high but I was so happy I bought a second one. It is small, well-made, and has just the right features. The built-in DAC allows for audio R/L (RCA connectors--also higher end) but I can also send the bits directly into my amp with the optical link. The range is excellent (have used over at least 30 feet and it was even in the next room). I am skeptical of Bluetooth since pairing always seems problematic with the various accessories. However, I have yet to have any problems with these links--they happen fast and the user interface is blazingly simple. This is a great add even for my older Luddite completely-analog-amplifier stereo system when now paired with my digital music library.

Pros: Small Excellent Sound Reliable Bluetooth Link

Cons: None

Very easy to get up and running and provides good range. I used it for a few days with my IPAD Mini 4 which is not aptx capable and sound was good. I then hooked it up to my NAD 565BEE CD player's optical input via TOSLINK and WOW+ - even more dynamic range. Sound seems to be improving with use which they said would happen. Can't wait till its fully broken in! Don't hesitate this is a quality item.

Connects quickly and I've had no disconnects. I haven't measured the communication distance but I can say I have had my phone in my pocket and been at the opposite end of the house and upstairs and it hasn't disconnected. It hides away nicely behind a medium sized picture frame. I can't speak to analog sound reproduction quality as I think the poor quality compressed music files are the limiting factor. I'll try no loss soon to hear any difference. But I have no complaints for the current set up. This wasn't cheap and I assumed I would get what I paid for but is it significantly better than one at half the cost? I don't know. I didn't want to take the chance.

Buy this and Spotify Premium and enjoy the magic. This is operating in a sweet spot of convenience and quality. I love Vinyl and CDs but when I want to discover new music or enjoy some favorites by simply surfing my phone, this product makes it sounds that much better. I was using airplay via Apple TV before. For my ears, this setup sounds better and never drops the signal.

Pros: Sound Build quality Range Reliability

Cons: On paper, $30 should get you a comparable product. Sometimes the best costs more :)

The Audioengine B1 turns your stereo amplifier or receiver into a Bluetooth capable device that communicates with your iPhone, iMac, or iPad. It allows you to remotely connect your stereo to the internet and control it. It has excellent range and quality of sound. The installation was quite easy. Just connect the output cables to your amplifier/receiver and plug it in. The B1 has a diode that will immediately start flashing, indicating that it is hunting for an internet connection. I then went into my utilities on my iPad Air and activated the Bluetooth option, and my iPad immediately found the B1 as a source. I chose the B1 and it connected without any problems. To control my stereo, I downloaded an apple app called "Simple Radio" and it operated like a charm with high quality reception allowing me to choose from an unlimited amount of internet sources from around the world. I also communicated with my iMac, which was in another room in my house to use music files from it. This is a well built and designed piece of gear and fully worth the price of $189.99

Pros: Easy to install and use, excellent audio.

I purchased the Audioengine B1 about two weeks ago and my experience with this product so far has been fantastic. The build quality out of the box was very impressive and setup was a breeze. I was a little skeptical about how the sound quality would be from a Bluetooth device but I was pleasantly surprised. I primarily listen to blues and jazz and have been streaming music only from YouTube so far and am very impressed with the sound quality. Bass is very tight and highs are clean and crisp. This device is a welcome modern addition to my twenty plus year old component system and I would highly recommend this product to anyone who wants modern convenience and impeccable sound quality. The only issue I have had with this product is that the Bluetooth connection occasionally disconnects. Other than that a the B1 is a superior product.

Pros: Excellent build quality and ease of use

Cons: Occasional Bluetooth disconnect

This is my son's Bluetooth Device. He has a smile on his face since we received it. He seem to be very happy. No complaints whatsoever. He told me that he loves the compact size just like the Audioengine D1 Headphone Amp that I purchased for my own use a while back. Nothing but clear sound coming from his Onkyo Receiver after he connected it and paired it to his Samsung Note 4 cell phone. Some of the best things do come in small boxes!

Pros: Small space occupancy; Beautifully made. Serves it's purpose exceptionally well.

The B1 is a great product and works as advertised! The sound quality is quite amazing. I opt'ed to utilize the digital output and the sound is nearly flawless. Set up was easy and after 10-15 hrs of use, the quality of sounds appears to have only improved. I am using my Galaxy S7 Edge to stream 95% of my music played via the B1. I use the B1 primarily for my outdoor speakers, which puts me usually 30-40 feet from the unit. The signal does have to travel through one concrete wall, which does limit the 100' advertised connection distance. After 40 feet....the connection can be hit/miss. Definitely worth the extra money over other units!

Pros: Sound Quality, ease if use, easy set up,

Cons: None

I was looking for a way to bring Bluetooth to my Mid-Century Modern house's vintage NuTone music/intercom system, and after reading the reviews of the Audioengine B1 as compared to the other units, this seemed like the only solution. I am happy to report that it works wonderfully! As the NuTone is a mono unit I needed to purchase a Y splitter for the single RCA jack, but otherwise hookup was a snap. The sound quality is far superior to the FM stations I was only able to use previously. I guess my only complaint is the price- especially while typing this review I see it is now $40 cheaper!

Pros: Sleek design, great sound.

Cons: Pricey but at least I didn't go the cheap way and be disappointed.,

I purchased this bluetooth device for my NAD 356DAC. The streaming quality from my MAC or iPhone is very good quality using spotify or CD's that I have ripped to my library. The audioengine internal DAC is top notch and I have not been disappointed. The range is as advertised and I have not run into any problems with gaps in music due to lack of range. The unit is small and almost out of site. Pairing the device is extremely easy and instant. The device turns off shortly after you disconnect via bluetooth on your phone or computer. The wires come out the back so it does not look ugly. The only area I have found a bit of a problem is using iTunes. Some of the recordings are a bit rough at the upper frequencies. I think this is due to iTunes streaming quality since the system sounds incredible when using ripped CD's or spotify set to high quality. Also, I still see some of the high frequency distortion using iTunes when bypassing the audioengine B1 by connecting my laptop to the DAC on the NAD amplifier via a usb cable, (speakers are Klipsch RB61 II). I am giving the device 5 stars due to the streaming quality from a high quality source , and sleek design, not an eyesore.

Pros: Excellent streaming quality, sleek design, not an eyesore.

I bought this so I could stream music from my iPhone and MacBook Pro at home. After doing a good bit of research I chose this unit based on its price and aptX compatibility. I have it connected to my integrated amp via its rca outputs and included rca cable. Honestly I had really modest expectations with respect to sound quality. I have a pretty nice hifi system at home and I decided to purchase this for convenience and not "serious listening". Boy was I pleasantly surprised when I heard it. Sound quality is fantastic. Obviously the onboard converter is high quality because any streaming audio artifacts are pretty much non-existent. High end is smooth and not brash and low end is surprisingly punchy. I haven't even paired it with an aptX device yet. If sound quality is even better with aptX I'm going to be even more blown away. Bluetooth pairing was also very simple and straight-forward. I'm very impressed and pleased with this purchase.

Pros: Amazing sound quality, easy to get up and running, solid construction, compact size.

Cons: None that I can find!

I give it 4 stars to begin. I had difficulty connecting, and keeping connected, the first unit with my laptop running Windows 10. The B1 worked well with an iPhone, but not the laptop. I talked with Audioengine Technical Support to learn how the B1 was supposed to operate. (I have had an Audioengine AW-2 wifi unit for iPhone that has worked flawlessly for 5 years.) Audioengine Technical Support has been excellent. They took the time to explain the B1 operation in detail and answered all my questions. I continued to have issues with laptop connectivity. Audioengine sent me a replacement B1 and a prepaid shipping label to return the original unit. The replacement B1 has worked very well out of the box. I will further test the B1 with the laptop under several different conditions. If the replacement unit continues to work as well as it has initially, I will raise the rating to 5 stars.

Pros: Works with laptop as well as iPhone. Sound quality is very good. Performs much better than any other Bluetooth device that I own. Compact size is easy to transport. Audioengine Technical Support experience has been excellent. Crutchfield 60 day trial period is twice what others offer.

Cons: Initial unit worked properly with iPhone, but not with laptop running Windows 10. (Replacement unit has worked properly with laptop and iPhone.)

The Audioengine B1 is exactly what I was looking for. I hooked it up to a set of powered Klipsch speakers in a loft area and they work great. The range is very good and the DAC send an accurate sound reproduction (as good as you can get with Blutooth, in any case) to the amplified speakers. You can find less expensive Blutooth receivers to use, but they won't be as high quality in build and performance. The Audioengine B1 is worth the cost.

The first thing you'll notice about this Bluetooth receiver is its weight. Meaning, unlike more Bluetooth receivers, it has some weight to it. It seems solidly built with a metal case and quality gold plated connectors on the back. The sound is amazing for a product of this type. I got a "dents and dings" version and it looks and functions perfect. The range is far superior to other Bluetooth receivers, although it doesn't quite reach the one room I wanted it to reach (I think part of the problem is the adapter in the associated computer). It hasn't buffered once during use. I only gave it four stars because of the price.
