The grandson of Sir Winston Churchill has displayed a dazzling slimmer figure as he joined crowds in Trafalgar Square to mark 100 years since the first tank battle at the Somme.
Sir Nicholas Soames, once the minister for food in John Major's government, cut a streamlined silouhette in London as he spoke about the history of tanks.

At his heaviest, Sir Soames is thought to have been about 20 stones, but he looked much healthier and smaller today in a double breasted suit and stripey tie.
The dramatic weight loss has come in just the last year, as pictures above show a much bigger Sir Soames in 2015, at the The Prince's Countryside Fund Raceday at Ascot Racecourse (above left).

The Conservative MP for Mid Sussex is said to have lost weight through 'restraint and abstinence'.
According to Bruce Anderson, of the Spectator, his tremendous weight loss is simply down to eating less, so says Gavin Rankin, of Bellamy's.
The former defence minister, who was born in Croydon, has come to blows with fellow MPs in recent months.
It was revealed in May that James Cleverly, the newly elected Conservative MP for Braintree, approached Sir Nicholas Soames in a Commons dining room to say he agreed with his appeal for the party to unite after June's EU referendum and to hold off from personal attacks.
But in an astonishing response, Sir Nicholas reportedly told Mr Cleverly: 'F*** off you c***.

The MP, 68, has not led his age get in the way of modern technology and has proved quite a hit on Twitter with his lengthy hashtags.
Two days ago, he tweeted: 'So much good in the worst of us:so much bad I the best of us ,that it does not become any one of us to find much fault with the rest of us.'
While the BBC Proms were on, he tweeted a message with the hashtag '#ADVANCEBRITANNIAGODSAVETHEQUEEN'.
He also sent 'I think Sir Henry wood wld be so proud of his brilliant creation#welldonethebeebforbuildingoniteveryyear'
