Stunning photo shows how MMA great Alistair Overeem - who used to be the most jacked fighter in the UFC - has transformed his body so much fans are now worried for his health

  •  Sports fans are worried about Overeem's health

Former UFC title challenger Alistair Overeem has shocked fans with his dramatic weight loss, with a recent photo showing him looking more like a middleweight than the heavyweight star he is known as.

'The Demolition Man', who is currently serving a one-year suspension for testing positive to a banned substance, was once known for having the most fearsome physique in all of combat sports.

However, the 43-year-old Dutchman looks practically unrecognisable in a recent photo taken with RIZIN Fighting Federation CEO Nobuyuki Sakakibara that was shared widely on social media.

'Alistair Overeem is looking slim! The Dutch legend met up with RIZIN CEO Nobuyuki Sakakibara last weekend,' Beyond Kickboxing posted to Twitter

'He's currently serving a suspension but is rumored to return for the GLORY Heavyweight Grand Prix in December, with $500,000 on the line.'

Fans were understandably concerned by his drastically shrunken appearance, with many thinking he might be suffering from a serious illness.

'Damn he has to [be] sick or something. This weight loss is not normal,' wrote one user.

'He looks like he's sick,' said another.

'I hope he's OK,' said a third.

Other fans put Overeem's leaner look down to him finally being off banned substances, which he tested positive for several times in his career.

Overeem was cut from the UFC in 2021 after a knockout loss to Alexander Volkov at UFC Vegas 18 in 2021.

Still involved in combat sports, Overeem has been competing as a pro for nearly 25 years in some of the biggest organisations including PRIDE, Strikeforce, Dream, K-1, GLORY and the UFC.

The striking specialist has taken on some of biggest names in the sport, including Fabricio Werdum, Mark Hunt, Mirko Cro Cop, Frank Mir and Stipe Miocic.

He is undoubtedly one of the most decorated martial artists ever, winning heavyweight titles in both Strikeforce and Dream as well as winning K-1’s World GP in 2010.

Overeem is planning on returning to the ring after his suspension has been served.
