Valerie Bertinelli has lost 10lbs! Actress, 62, says she has 'gone down one size' after doing Dry January - as she 'heals' from trauma of being called 'fat and lazy' by ex

One Day At A Time actress Valerie Bertinelli shared this weekend on TikTok that she has lost 10lbs so far this year.

The 62-year-old beauty was thrilled that she will now have to go down one size in her blue jeans. The weight loss is due to her participating in Dry January, which is when booze is cut out.

And the Hot In Cleveland star also shared that the weight loss is just one of the great 'side effects' of her alcohol-free plan.

The Food Network star said: 'These jeans that I'm wearing were so tight a few months ago that I couldn't comfortably button them. Now, they're so loose it's time for me to go down a size.'

This comes after she said she needed to 'heal' after she stumbled across texts where she was called 'fat and lazy.' She strongly hinted the mean messages were from her ex-husband Tom Vitale.

'Yeah, I like that side effect,' said Bertinelli who appeared thrilled with it all.

A fan asked if she feels better. 'I may also do dry July,' said Valerie.

The star famously lost 50lbs in 2009 and posed in a green bikini for the cover of People magazine to display her progress. But over the years the weight crept back on as she went through a painful divorce and saw her ex-husband Eddie Van Halen die.

When she announced in January she was cutting out booze, she said she liked it so far. 'I'm doing it for two reasons. One, I want to try and cut down the cravings for my sugar. And I think alcohol exacerbates that,' said the TV vet.

And she hoped to be healthier overall. 'I want to calm down the cortisol in my body that has been raging for the last five, six years. I've been in fight, flight, freeze, fawn mode. And I want to go into rest and digest,' she said. 'I think cutting alcohol will help me do that.'

And she made it sound like a good challenge.

'If you're doing a dry January, let's have fun. Let's do it together,' she said.

This comes after she told fans she is doing better after divorcing Vitale. 

Last week Bertinelli gave fans an insight into her doomed marriage to Vitale in a series of Instagram posts.  

The actress referenced shocking text messages she saw and opened up about the vicious things she was called in past relationships.  

Bertinelli has also said that the Dry January cleanse has given her the ability to look at her mental health.

Divorce: In November 2021, Valerie filed for legal separation from Vitale, citing irreconcilable differences; seen in 2012

In her most recent clip, Bertinelli jumped on a viral trend and mouthed, 'Oh my god, oh my god, why did you do that?' before adding, 'I don't know.' 

Written on the screen during the 'Oh my god' portion of the audio was 'Why did you let them stay after finding the texts?' 

It's unclear exactly what text messages the mother-of-one she was referencing though.  

The One Day at a Time actress captioned the short clip with three melting faces emojis.

Her divorce from Vitale was officially finalized in November, after 11 years of marriage. She stated on Twitter at the time: 'I am officially f***ing divorced!'  

The Golden Globe winner could be seen in a short selfie video as she held a cheerful smile on her face. 

Valerie tied the knot with businessman Tom in 2011, but the actress filed for a legal separation in November 2021. In May 2022, she took another step and filed for divorce, citing 'irreconcilable differences.' 

The Hot in Cleveland star was forced to pay more than $2 million to finalize the divorce. 

Son from first marriage: The actress was also married to late Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen from 1981 until 2007; the former couple have a son Wolfgang Van Halen, 31
