Spot the difference! Jake Cherry is replaced by look-alike actor Skyler Gisondo as Ben Stiller's son in Night At Museum 3

Change is in the air for the third instalment of the billion dollar franchise A Night At The Museum.

Ben Stiller's onscreen son Jake Cherry apparently got the casting boot before filming began in London, after he won over audiences in the two previous films as loveable Nick Daley.

But the young actor's replacement Skyler Gisondo, 17, looks to be the spitting image of Cherry as he was spotted filming scenes with Stiller at the Tower Of London, on Monday.

The duo were engaged in an intense chat as a camera crew surrounded them, capturing their theatrical banter.

As the two walked along the famous tourist destination the young star wore a beanie and a heavy winter vest.

Skyler's previous work includes The Bill Engvall Show and Jake Kasdan’s Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and will also make an appearance in the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

No reason has been given by the studio as to why Skyler replaced Jake Cherry, 17, in the role.

And while Stiller is famous for his weaponised modelling pose 'blue steel' in the comedy Zoolander, he looked to have another reason to be feeling blue.

The There's Something About Mary star may have been reminiscing about a recent diving trip he made to the shark infested waters off the coast of South Africa as he stuffed his hands into his coat pockets and hunched his shoulders up in an attempt to fend off the inclement weather.

Sporting acid wash jeans and brown loafers the actor filmed scenes with his onscreen son Skyler Gisondo, who has replaced Jake Cherry for the role of Nick Daley.

As the premise of the film follows museum exhibits coming to life at night, most of the production takes place under the cover of darkness.

So the spot of daytime filming must have been a welcome bit of a change for the theatrical pair.

The production team distributed a letter to local residents last week, informing them that the movie will be filming at the British Museum through February 3 until it moves on to Vancouver, B.C., effectively making the Tower Of London scene their final day in the UK.

The forthcoming film will also see Owen Wilson and Ricky Gervais reprise their respective roles as Jedediah and Dr. McPhee – but they will be joined by a host of new cast members when the film goes on general release later this year.

Amongst these will be Sir Ben Kingsley, who has signed up to play a ‘formidable Egyptian pharaoh’ who comes to life with the aid of a magic tablet, and Rebel Wilson, who will play a security guard at the museum.

The film, directed by Shawn Levy, has been scheduled for release on December 25, 2014.

From New York City's American Museum of Natural History to Washington DC's Smithsonian Institute, the Night At The Museum film franchise has finally come to London.

The first film grossed $574.5 million at the worldwide box office, with the second feature, Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian taking $413.1 million.

No doubt 20th Century Fox are hoping to replicate their previous success with the third instalment.

This means the film will go head-to-head with Peter Jackson's third and final Hobbit film There And Back Again.
