Downtown Abbey star Daisy Lewis goes braless in a VERY plunging fuchsia slip gown as she leads the glamour at charity gala in London

She is best known for playing outspoken schoolteacher Sarah Bunting in the ITV period drama Downton Abbey.

But Daisy Lewis looked worlds away from her onscreen role on Wednesday night, as she attended Macmillan Cancer Support's winter gala at The Guildhall in London.

The British actress, 31, certainly turned heads as she posed in a plunging silky fuchsia gown, which featured racy thigh splits.

The blonde beauty took centre-stage in her jewel-coloured creation, which boasted delicate spaghetti straps and a floor-sweeping hemline.

Daisy added height to her statuesque frame with a vertiginous pair of metallic platform heeled sandals.

Styling her peroxide blonde crop in a sleek side-parting, Lewis plumped her lips with a slick of scarlet lipstick.

Letting her gown do all the talking, the Churchill's Secret actress - who last year split from comedian Steve Coogan - opted not to wear any jewellery.

The actress looked perfectly at home as she posed at the gala, held in a bid to raise money for the charity's iconic nurses.

Guests were joined by celebrities, star performers and Macmillan nurses at the event, which was hosted by comedian Jo Brand.

Attendees received a champagne reception, followed by an evening of fine dining and entertainment, with music from soul singer and M People star Heather Small and BBC Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills.

Daisy's outing comes after she criticised Tatler magainze for their description of her in the most ‘selectable delectable eligibles’ list.

The Downton Abbey star was left ‘shocked and upset’ after Tatler magazine described her as ‘loud’ in bed in its Little Black Book.

The magazine was forced to issue an apology yesterday after Daisy hit out at the society bible for its ‘misogynistic’ description of her on the annual list of singles with ‘mesmerising beauty and brilliant brains’.

The article in the December issue says: ‘As Daisy is quite small, you might be tricked into believing she’s quiet. LOL. She isn’t.

'This actress is loud. Which makes her fun at a party. And in bed. Probably.’

After catching sight of the edition, Daisy tweeted her astonishment on Friday: ‘I’m really shocked and upset by this. But thankfully I’m “loud” enough to say it. Does anyone at Tatler read the news? #misogyny #loudwomen.’

She told the Daily Mail: ‘It seemed a bit archaic but I don’t think they meant to be mean.

‘I found it inappropriate in the current climate. It reminded me of a lads’ mag. It was supposed to be witty and I don’t want to be the fun police but at the end of the day, women are all in this together and it felt cheap and not funny.

'It felt like school bullying. I can’t let that kind of stuff fly. This could affect my profession.’

Tatler later apologised ‘unreservedly’ on Twitter and announced it will be publishing a full apology in its next issue.
