Shinki Kagawa celebrates a goal

Kagawa was forced to pull out of Japan’s World Cup qualifier with Iraq this week after damaging his back and suffering spasms.

The Japan Football Association said that Kagawa felt pain in his lower back during a training session and ruled him out of last night’s game.

Kagawa will jet back to Manchester to be assessed by United’s medical staff before a decision is made about him being able to face the Latics at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson will be desperate for Kagawa to play considering the midfielder has been in such impressive form this season.

Kagawa, 23, has been a revelation since joining United from Borussia Dortmund in a £16m deal this summer.

Fergie is already without Chris Smalling due to a long-term injury and lost Phil Jones for two months last week after a knee operation.

Meanwhile, United star Anderson has set his sights on helping Fergie’s men secure a clean-sweep of silverware this season.

United failed to win a trophy last season but Anderson said: “We have to do better.

“Manchester United have to win every trophy and we’re disappointed if we don’t. There’s always pressure to do well when you play here.

“Last year we lost the league on goal difference. Everyone was sad but we have to forget that and concentrate on this season.”
