This desirable, very long-lived specimen tree is often seen in parks and public gardens where its symetrical shape and artistically-formed branches and leaves can be fully admired. Smaller specimens can make lovely pot-s. Its home is the dry rainforests of New South Wales and Queensland and also New Guinea where the trees can live up to 450 years and ultimately grow to a height of 60 metres. It is a remnant species from when Australia was a much wetter continent and is now found scattered through rainforest, rocky gorges and along stream banks. The attractive bark is rough, splits naturally, and peels easily, the name "Hoop" referring to the tendency of the bark to remain as hoops. SOWING ADVICE: These have already been thoroughly cleaned and should be sown into a well-drained, sandy compost at any time of the year, and covered thinly with sand or grit and kept moist. Keep at between 20-25 degrees C. sometimes germinate within 4 to 6 weeks although some varieties may take very much longer so please be patient. out in the open ground in warmer countries or in a large container elsewhere.
