It will follow the 50-year-old as he attempts to save the vehicles he believes are vital to telling the story of post-war Britain: the Ford Escort Mexico, MGTC, Mini Cooper MK1, Triumph Stag and the DeLorean.

Restorer Ant Anstead will be given the task of rebuilding the cars, while the end of the series will see the vehicles being auctioned off to motor fanatics.

Meanwhile, Glenister will meet past and present owners of the cars to find out why they are so important and what impact they had on Britain.

Glenister is also currently working on BBC drama From There to Here, which follows two families caught in the aftermath of the 1996 IRA bomb attack on Manchester city centre.
