ITV's Trauma had audiences gripped earlier this year, but series star John Simm has warned us not to expect a sequel.

The three-parter from Doctor Foster writer Mike Bartlett cast Simm as Dan, a father who pursues a vendetta against the surgeon (Adrian Lester) who he believes was responsible for the death of his son.

The first series ended *spoilers* with Lester's character admitting fault, helping Dan to find some peace, and Simm told Digital Spy and other press that he doesn't expect to reprise the role.

"I think Trauma would be a no [to returning] because it would be difficult to revisit," he explained. "He's an everyman, an ordinary guy – you can't have anything else happen to him, as it would be unfair."

Simm was promoting his new ITV drama Strangers, in which he plays Jonah Mulray, a professor who, reeling from the news that his wife has suddenly died, has to travel to Hong Kong to unravel the circumstances of her death.

While he ruled out any more Trauma (at least with him in the lead), Simm did reveal that he'd be open to a revival of the popular Life on Mars.

"I'd certainly consider it!" he said. "It could end up like Doctor Who – I never thought that was going to happen again and then… time travel!"

John Simm stars in ITV's new drama Strangers, begins Monday, September 10 on ITV.
