HBO is developing a new sci-fi drama entitled The Spark.
The project - created by Last Resort's Karl Gajdusek - is currently in development.
The Spark takes place in the future, focusing in on the planet as it undergoes a technological and industrial revolution, Deadline reports.
A female protagonist's storyline will play out at the center of The Spark, as she attempts to find where a mysterious signal sent to earth is coming from.
The series will also explore what Gajdusek refers to as the 'five pillars' of science fiction: alien contact, artificial intelligence, technological breakthroughs, space exploration and adventure, and origin stories.
Gajdusek, who is also known for his work on series such as Dead Like Me and Trespass, will be writer and executive producer on The Spark.
He recently penned the screenplay for the action thriller November Man, which stars Pierce Brosnan.
