The Dominic Cooper-starring Preacher will come roaring back to our screens for a third season.

Seth Rogen announced the exciting news on Twitter that the AMC series, which he created with Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin, will air new episodes next year.

(Warning: Some season 2 spoilers follow.)

Based on the cult comic, Cooper stars as Texan preacher Jesse who has gained the voice of God, giving him the power to compel people to do as he orders.

The second season saw Jesse, alongside his ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), embark on a road trip to find actual God.

On their way, they found themselves in Heaven, Hell and all sorts of places in between – even meeting Adolf Hitler while detouring through Hell. As you do.

The explosive season 2 finale saw a devastating major character death, so Jesse and the gang headed off to Angelville in the hope of a resurrection.

Elsewhere, Cooper will be starring in the long-awaited Mamma Mia sequel and has revealed he's glad the producers have waited.

"They've waited for a script to come along that makes sense and is fun and is gonna be as exciting for fans of the original, and that's really important," he said.

As well as Cooper and Amanda Seyfried, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan are also returning, while Baby Driver's Lily James has signed on in the role of a 'Young Donna'.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! is set for release in US cinemas on July 20, 2018 and UK cinemas on July 27, 2018.
