Encephalartos arenarius

CONSERVATION STATUS:
  • Endangered.

CULTIVATION:

  • Semi shade to full sun.
  • Does well with regular watering and good drainage.

PROPAGATION:

  • Readily produces suckers and grow well from seedlings as well.
NATURAL HABITAT:
  • Eastern Cape Province.
  • Restricted to the Alexandria district on sandy dunes.

STEM:

  • Aerial, unbranched and erect but longer trunks, often become decumbent. Stems can attain a length of 3 meters with a diameter of 20 cm – 40 cm.

LEAVES:

  • Leaves are lobed with a variation in colour from a bright green to dark green.
  • Some specimens have a dull silvery grey appearance and can become a
    dark bluish colour. Leaves are hairless, rigid and 1 m – 1.5 m long.
