Encephalartos lebomboensis sp. mananga

CONSERVATION STATUS:
  • Threatened.

CULTIVATION:

  • Light shade to full sunlight.
  • Regular watering.
  • Tolerates light frost.

PROPAGATION:

  • Readily propagated from seed and suckers.
  • Transplants easily and is a relatively fast grower.
NATURAL HABITAT:
  • Mpumalanga Province in the Mananga area close to the Mozambican border north of Swaziland.

STEM:

  • Erect, aerial stem which sometimes becomes reclining.
  • Stem can attain a length of 4 meters with a diameter of 25 cm – 40 cm.
  • Stem apex is covered with brownish hair.

LEAVES:

  • Bright, dark green on the upper side with a lighter more yellowish green on the lower side.
  • Leaves are straight, often curving slightly downwards at the apex.
  • Leaflets do not shield one another.
CONES:
  • Cones of both sexes have a yellowish, orange colour.
