CONSERVATION STATUS:
- Extinct in nature.
CULTIVATION:
- Full sun.
- Regular watering.
- Can sustain light frost.
PROPAGATION:
- Propagated only from suckers, as only male plants exist.
NATURAL HABITAT:
- Swaziland on the north eastern border near Siteki.
- Only one cluster of plants was found and is now extinct in nature.
STEM:
- Aerial, erect stem.
- Stem can attain a length of 1.5 meters to 2 meters with a diameter of up to 50 cm.
- The stem apex is covered with a large amount of golden wool that remain on the crown of the plant.
LEAVES:
- Leaves have a dark green colour on the upper side with a lighter green colour on the lower side.
- The leaves are initially covered with white silvery hair that can give the plant a silvery grey look.
- The hair is soon lost when leaves mature.
- Leaflets are 20 cm – 25 cm long, with a width of 15 mm – 18 mm.
- The margins are entire and the leaflets are strongly concave transversely.
CONES:
- Male cones are bright green becoming yellowish green with maturity.
