Wingstem (Verbesina alternifolia)

Verbesina alternifolia is a species of flowering plant in the venerable Asteraceae family. It is more commonly known as Wingstem and lesser as Yellow Ironweed. It is native to much of Central and Eastern North America, and into Canada. It is a larval host to the gold moth and the Silvery Checkerspot Butterfly, Summer Azure Butterfly, and the Gold Moth

Preferring more shade than sun, and more wet than dry, this hardy lesser known native will tolerate varying conditions.

This plant will spread easily from both rhizomes and seed, making it an excellent choice for places where quick soil colonization is preferred.

This plant is considered present but rare in a county of Delaware.
