PACIFIC TO CLAIM ASHES OF FLIER
The ashes of Lieut. Harwood S. Sharp of El Cerrito and another Navy airman, who drifted ashore on Formosa and were killed by the Japanese in 1945, will be scattered over the Pacific on April 12, according to an Associated Press report from Pearl Harbor.
More than 600 Navy personnel will attend the ceremonies of the memorial mission, during which the ashes will be dropped from a carrier plane five miles off Diamond Head.
Sharp, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Selwyn Sharp, 517 Sea View Drive, El Cerrito, and James R. Langiotti, radioman first class, of Florida, were taking part in an attack on Formosa in 1944, when their plane was struck by anti-aircraft fire. They were last seen getting into a rubber life raft. According to Japanese records, they were executed in 1945.
